Hey Bru, I checked out that White Metal Hasslefree deal, didn't know that existed before, seems a pretty cool setup but they will be after 30mm stuff I think which I haven't done yet. I am quite happy pottering along this year, just soaking up the info and learning some skills and selling bits here and there. The guys at GreyMatter miniatures are all ex employees at Fire Industries (the guys who did the Rackham pumpkin head, The crow and ninja goblin etc resins) so my work will be in safe hands when they produce my stuff for me and some of the resins they sent me samples of are real nice - especially the most expensive one which I will be getting them to do my busts in as its silky smooth.
No photos today though folks although there is stuff to show, the latest skin texture should look far more effective on the legs and the shield is now finished, the head has had some adjustments, some tidying up and is now also finished and the arms are left to do still along with the weapon. I may do a second head choice with a crodile type skull as a helmet - havent decided whether that will be a seperate piece or just get them to do me a cast and sculpt the helmet straight onto that. I will have to talk to them. Tim has graciously accepted the job of painting him for the display photo. Probably do the new photos tomorrow.
cheers,
dfb

Well, I ve just finished sculpting the wizard jarhead (although he's not actually a jarhead now!), grabbed the camera and you know what, the batteries are out of juice despite only charging them a couple of days ago and taking about 4 pictures. So I m annoyed. Hopefully i will be able to charge them enough to catch the last few rays of sunlight and snap a photo. It looks pretty good, I will have to do a couple more caricature busts to accompany him I think. It will be winging its way to Greymatter Figures tomorrow and Tim will be painting him when he's all cast up and on sale.

Ok, here;s some photos to look at. The paintjob photo is poorly lit, light is pretty harsh bu shows it off okay. Some better ones to come when i put it in the light tent on a sunny day! Here is the finished wizard bust and will hopefully be cast on Monday. WOohoo. Hope you like it. In the first photo I have smudged the line dividing the two parts just to try and see what its like when filled and blended. Tim will be painting this for Grey Matter Figures and I have no idea how much they will be selling it for. I do know they will be experimenting with finishes - doing a bronzed look as well as plain resin. I have felt the resin they (hopefully) intend to use. It is their most expensive one, but it is silky smooth and I hope they definately do use it. dfb

The Wizard look s better with a hat on IMO is the join going to be filled before casting? I like the basework so far on Tank Girl I never bought this one and wished I had, I did get two of the others in that range though.

The Wizard is now on CMON, so please take the time to vote and/or comment!! Many thanks. www.coolminiornot.com/220274The join will not be filled - he wanted it two part so it was easier to mould. I would have preferred to have it one piece so no additional work is required by the painter. Get your putty ready tim. He will be trying it in a bronzed effect finish as well, so I guess they will have to attach and fill those ones before applying the bronze powder finish. Anti Tank Girl is a nice model Tim, who knows Tim at grey matter may be nice and send you one for painting the wizard! dfb

Well, I got a message from Tim Skelton today at Grey Matter Figures and the hat has survived the moulding process and has come out beautifully! The head is setting up overnight ready to come out tomorrow. I will be ebaying the very first cast as a kind of pre-release promo as their new site is not ready to go just yet and they want to put it on sale as soon as possible. Hopefully I will have it in my hands on Friday! Woohoo. Forgive my excitement, it is my first piece being cast though!!
Tim - if your reading this, yours should be with you next week - I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the paintjob, and as mentioned you should be getting anti tank girl with it!!
**UPDATE** Lazy week in my painting/sculpting world this week. After finishing the wizard I ve taken some time out to paint the anti tank girl, you've seen the base and I have started the figure. So far so good - the leather jacket looks absolutely stunning and exactly as I imagined it which is good for me!! It is a light brown coloured worn out look. bubonic brown, a couple of bestial brown washes, brown ink and dry brushed shades of bubonic brown similiar to bleached bone but then I am colour blind so it might not be. It looks good - thats all you need to know! I am doubly pleased with this as it means I will be able to do a good job on my Wolfen Jarheads ninja hood. I decided not to do any freehand on it in order to show off the leather without ruining it lol!! The pink t-shirt has some freehand on it though. Now I have the tricky job of matching the rest of the paintjob to the same standard as the leather jacket and that may be tricky, we'll see but I think my painting is a bit better at this larger scale. Im not looking forward to the eyes though.

Stunning sculpt, the skin texture is awesome. I've not read your WIP before and I'm impressed with What you've done (very jealous also). What material do you use for your sculpt and where do you get it from, I tend to use Green stuff but would be interested in trying alternative putty / wax.

Hi, glad you like the thread but there is also much stuff in yours that i have been jealous of - particularly like that chariot base and your turrets, walls and emplacements! I use super sculpey or super sculpey firm - which is grey. this is very similiar to fimo and used by movie studios, toy sculptors and the like. It is popular but you will have to buy it online if you re in the UK (I ve read your wip thread but cant remember!)I recommend you try it for your future projects it is very easy to blend it doesnt take long to bake it off, let it cool and get working on it again. It is pretty good for dry sculpting although i still prefer milliput for that. Its not expensive either about £9 for a 454g box which will last you a long time for small scale stuff. I used most of one box to do the wizard so it would have cost a small fortune to do it in green stuff.

Thanks for the reply, I'll be looking at getting some in the next week or so to try out, The Green stuff ( Kneadatite )I've been using cost £9.00 per 36" or 200g from eBay, You can also get it direct from manufacture, Not too bad and better than getting it from GW at £4 for 6". Once I start sculpting stuff for real I'll be asking you loads of questions so stand by

Okay, here that little side project I mentioned somewhere. The basic goal of it is to have a nice set of busts to play Talisman with instead of those poor little plastic guys that come with it. Needs tidying - its not quite finished yet, have to sort the necklace out and refine the hair. The actual base design is yet to be finalised - each character will have a base that reflects the character as well. I will probably use some square metal tubing for it and then attach it to an ornamental bottom piece.

Not as sold on this one as I have been on previous sculpts, I think it's his droopy 'moobs' that put me off.

Well Bru, this is wip remember, it aint finished yet and neither am i sold on it in its current state. The underside of the bust will be sculpted after the top is baked, so all that will be changed and sorted when done. I got to scrape down his nose to size, tidy up hair, teeth and mouth expression and do the necklace when its baked. Then on course there is the base. I will be attempting to achieve a likeness that matches 2nd edition talisman artwork which i think i managed to achieve. cant remember the guys name at the moment, but it is the artist who illustrated the LoneWolf series of adventure gamebooks.

Another amazing sculpt ! I really like his expression. The neck looks very solid, and eyebrows are nicely done as well. I'm not so sure about the necklace though, it looks a bit weird on such a masculine character, but maybe that's just my female opinion

Thanks MaGie. I like the necklace personally, this is a Talisman bust remember where one of the goals is to earn a talisman so you get to the middle of the board! So him wearing a talisman is not so odd in that respect. It looks better now overall as well.
Well people, I have baked this dude off now, post some pics later, just got to photoshop them. It is a bit overbaked though which darkens it a little. Not good overbaking stuff when you are supposed to be a baker. Anyhow, I have a gleaming spice jar in front of me and the urge to start another jarhead is upon me, can I resist, urrrghhhh, arrrrggghhh........

Oew brilliant! Like Bruenor said, the cloak really perfectly finishes the mini, That makes sense, never heard of that game before. BTW together with the cloak it doesn't really look that feminine anymore.
