Howling Griffon Attack BikeJust a little update, quick WIP of the sidecar. Have gone for a wash to shade it this time. I'm not sure I like to rely on this technique alone to shade so I'll stick with wet blending. Just two shades of wash, bestial brown and black. Have painted on some chipped paint effects which I will be working on. I intend to neaten up the wash as well, then it's time to highlight and paint the wheel. Here's the base, just a little work on details left to paint here.

Thanks, the whole Howling Griffon unit will be battle weathered. In fact i will try and make my 40k stuff in general look a little more battle weary than the super clean marines you see in white dwarf every month. I bought some marines to add to the project and I may get a dreadnought as well, see what i can do. People are telling me that it will sell as stand alone units - whether that is true or not I do not know. At the moment I am just enjoying doing these Griffons, I just need to practice freehand - I have that rhino coming up next and the artwork i have in mind although simple in its nature is starting to worry me!!

I think the weathered look is fantastic and you have achieved a very realistic look at a very early stage.

I like it too, can't wait to see it ready. The base is also good, I like the broken paint effect on the wall pieces, although for me it is too obviously cork. I have the feeling when looking at the base, that it doesn't form a whole, just pieces thrown togheter. The wall pieces and debris are lying nicely on each other, a bit too artificially... I hope you undestand what I mean

I sure do endrem, I was thinking exactly the same thing myself the other day. Nevermind, I'll see what I can do on the next base. Maybe I'll try and get some battlefield pictures of Beirut or something for reference!!

jesus christ didn't realise it's been so long since i posted in here!!! Well, seeing as i have so much time to kill now I'm off with my bad arm I'd just like to say that instead of laughing at you all whilst you have to go to work or school/college I have decided to set up a painting area and attempt to get on with some of the projects i started before i moved house last october. so look out for some more wip pics soon! this is gonna be a laugh trying to paint and sculpt whilst trying not to strain my shoulder!!!
Howling Griffin WIP Update:
the bike now has a gunner and most of the bike itself has been painted - just tank, front shield, guns and handlebars as well as the rider to do. I have made a custom radio antenna to go on the bike as the banner pole with the skull on top doesn't appeal to me. I will also make the guns swapable via a pin as this will be part of a an army for sale it will need to be customisable as possible.
Ogre Pirate army WIP:
Have nearly finished the lookout today. He will be a standard bearer with the gnoblar lookout attachement. i Sculpted a wood floor on the lookout post just for a better finish rather than the flat plastic. To give a general idea of what he looks like the base is wooden planks (sculpted from gs) with maybe a coil of rope for added detail. The legs have been extended - he is a lookout after all but they are slightly too big as is the shoe. As i do not wish to resculpt the whole leg and foot I will be lazy here and compensate with a big hat and some character fluff about how he is a deformed misfit rejected from his ogre clan and forced into a life of piracy - hahaah thats the cunning plan, you can be the judges of whether it works or not when i post pictures!!
oRK bIG mEK:
just started cleaning mold lines and designing a base for this one so not a lot of progress made today on it!!!
Ogre Butcher WIP Update:
This has been 99% done for ages, just a little detail to add here and there and it's off to ebay for him. Created some character fluff for him : "Garlak Stumpfoot was captured by the Imperials and thrown into a dungeon for many years before he had the great fortune of becoming friendly (well as friendly as ogres get) with the prison cook. After much f'ing and blinding and arguing over recipes and who is the best at making grub they decide to have a kitchen cook off challenge (Garlak was of course safely chained to the nearest pillar). When Garlak discovered that the prison chef wasn't able to get his required freshly matured Halfling belly fillet and had to work with chewy 2 week old gnoblar rump he got mad and cut up the prison chef into a fine sushi. In a desperate escape attempt he had to hack his own foot off to escape the great manacle that chained him to the dungeon wall. Using his own foot for some ancient foul magic he managed to make his way out of the castle and into the hills never to be seen in an empire kitchen again."
I will post picture hopefully tomorrow and get some of these old projects back on track to completion.

pirate bsb wip yah! An update and some progress achieved. the main details to do are the knot on the sash on his right side by the gut plate, remove a fingerprint i've just spotted on the peg leg bottom bit, sculpt a pony tail, coil of rope of the base and some minor detailing - pipe, beer barrel etc. it's not a bad conversion and i'm certainly happy with the look of it even with its faults, but when you look at the pro sculpts it makes you despair at the thought of the long road ahead to get to their level! Sorry but i messed up the pictures of the marine biker - will do these again later today.

the ogre's looking cool mate, i would have positioned the wooden leg slightley differen, more at an angle like he's resting on it somewhat, cant fault the sculpting at this stage though. great job ;D

I'm glad your arm's messed up... time for a sardonic compatriot, (ps, i couldn't bring myself to read all that drivel you began with but i'm sure it's interesting!!!) as for the convo, feck, i wish i knew how to use that awful sticky stuff... i thought i was on a cool thing, i bought some greenstuff in a tube, readymixed!! this is a voice of experience, don't buy it! from 'squadron', fast drying green putty, it's only purpose is to intoxicate you! hmmm...buy lots! please excuse any tangential remarks, it's got something to do with the green stuff

lol. drivel???!!!!!drivel???!!!!! you're right though it is interesting stuff, when you have a spare hour you can settle down with a cup of tea/barrel of beer and read it!!!
on a serious note, i only use regular greenstuff, not from gw either i might add!!! i haven't seen fast drying/ready mixed, sounds dangerous to me - if it can intoxicate you it would probably kill me.

Time for an update I feel. The attack bike is progressing along now - the bike is nearly complete, the sidecar is complete but i need to rework the gunners head a little and paint an additional weapon option. The base still needs to be made to feel a little more natural as well. The main thing to improve on is the photography of it all as I still struggle to get some nice clearly lit shots that show it as if you were holding it in your hands. It's better than it looks here and I'm frustrated I can't show off!! I also have an ogre pirate painted which i will be posting after the competition its in is over (i think its supposed to be annoymous) in the showcase thread. the pirate bsb is all but done so its nearly time to start the next lot - my ork big mek (base is nearly done) and a steel legion sentinel - which i will be seeking peoples thoughts on for a pose.

Yep, its Howling Griffons - I saw an army in WD and liked the look of the colour scheme, so I decided to do one. I bought some terminators the other day to add to the army list. I now have some marines, exterminators, another bike, commander, a tech marine, and a rhino so far to paint up!!!
The pirate ogre didn't have alot more done to it to be honest, just a bit more detailing on the back - ponytail, money pouch and a dagger, resculpted the sash and made a pipe for him! I probably won't paint him as I need some cash so I'm gonna try and sell him on ebay. If it doesn't sell, you can expect to see him painted up here though!! I will be doing the captain next.

No problem Tim, I'll be making another for my pirate army at a later stage as well - I'll probably stick to a similiar design. Anyhow, I'll be needing a good greenskin recipe soon, if you could post it in here when you get time I would appreciate it. I think I have sussed that it might be an olive green which makes your greenskins alot nicer than many others I see - am I right??

My basic recipe is a base of Catachan Green, then a shade of Catachan Green with a little Black, reset the Catachan Green base coat, then gradually highlight by adding Camo Green into the Catachan Green until you have pure Camo Green. I then use two or three extemely thin glazes of Green Ink (the old GW one) and then if I need to I then highlight one or two areas again with Camo Green and if there are any veins or things like that I add a touch of Bleached Bone to the Camo Green to finish. It is a bit long winded but the results are worth it.
