Great sculpting work you have! The goblin head looks very good, much character.
Do you have any WIP pictures of your sculpting work? I'm interested to learn, but at the moment I cannot even fill a gap with green stuff.
I would love to see the sea serpent.

Hey MaGie. No WIP photos I m afraid I didn't stop all night other than to make cups of tea and coffee! If you want to learn sculpting there are many good websites - here is a very good inspirational one : myweb.cebridge.net/gsworks/gallery.htm This guy (and his studio team) is awesome. I think there is a tutorial in there somewhere. The advice I would give as a beginner myself is that you should build symmetrically and take equal lumps of putty before you start putting them on. This helped me get the sculpt looking even and accurate straight away with no glaring mistakes to correct. Take a photo and use it as reference or copy it. Doing a large scale face is a good place to start. The sea monster is basically an octopus and is not as impressive as the goblin (I wanted it smaller) but i will put a picture up soon. |

yeah its a great site and he s done some envious jobs - it doesnt get better than sculpting for marvel and mcfarlene I guess. I really like his villains and heroes bookends and the han and greedo bookends. absolutely amazing stuff. shame he doesnt do some stuff for forgeworld!

Here are some more diabolically bad photos for you all to strain your eyes over. The sea monster turned out pretty good and i have just turned the oven on to bake the sculpt hard. I hope it survives. I will also bake the goblin off later. The water jar should look pretty sweet next to the goblin brushpot and its one project that I always fancied doing thatI can now put to bed! Of course I am starting another brushpot though to put on ebay and pay for the dreadnought I just bought for the howling griffons army. Going off at a tangent, that dreadnought will be beefed up with some sculpted and converted details so you could possibly use it as a venerable dreadnought, a mighty battle standard will also be sculpted. Some of the converting will have elements of chaos to it and I will be changing the base to something closer to the forgeworld ones. When the terminators are complete I will be starting this and the Rhino - my first vehicles ever so expect to see some nice things. The reason there will be chaos elements is by the way is because the rhino I have is the chaos one so i got some extra spiky sprues spare to use up. For example the spiked arches on this sprue will be used across the shoulders like shoulder pads. The arms will be magnetised of course so you can change wepon options. Anyway here's the rough pictures.... just to give you a blurry idea about what it looks like!     Photos were taken just before i completed it so some tentacles are missing! |

Its sculpted onto the glass Tim, so this one won't be cast up. Quite a few people have expressed an interest in getting one and I will be posting the link when the next one goes on ebay.
I am definately impressed with super sculpey, although this sea monster was a bit wierd when it came out the oven, with blotches appearing on the surface of a small area. I will resculpt over it and bake it off again to cover it up. I think it was due to uneven thickness - this obviously makes bake times more difficult to judge. I am very tempted to start another brush pot tonight - the next spice jar is in some water soaking the label off as i type this. a lizardman of some description is a tempting idea as it will give me a chance to practice. There is another type of sculpey available , a firm version which is coloured grey so I will probably buy a pack of this when I run out next, supposed to be carvable and more photography fiendly.

Yes, I want to do a wizard bust. Again, this will be done on a spice jar using the bottle shape for a nice base and then i may try to mold and cast it, who knows it may turn out okay!

Sounds good, i was tinking purple too. Maybe i'll give it 3 or 4 coats of white then a few washes of grey leaving a white kind of underbelly area and then some green and then some purple and then some.....lol. See what it turns out like and. Then if it looks rubbish its everyone elses fault lol. I'll just whistle and walk away .

the goblin head is about 65mm high. the lizardman is about the same but alot wider due to hie mouth and a bony crest i have sculpted. its going well - just doing skin texture at the moment, then i have all the bony plates and horns to sort out!

Okay, here are some reasonable photos - its WIP but only some teeth left to do and texture on the tongue. Enjoy the Pictures.........  closeup.............  Im pretty pleased with it. This was done on the fly - no sketches or planning and it probably wasnt the best choice to do it this way as i m not familiar with lizard facial structure. As it turns out i saw a picture of a lizard in the paper today and it looks pretty accurate texture wiise, although i went with a wrinkled look instead of all those scales! Will be on ebay soon. |
