I think I have the colours, but not the ink. I'll have to pop down town tomorrow. Thanks for that tim, I'll give it a try when I start the fig - am currently trying to figure out how I want to put the barbed wire and signpost on my base. It was inspired by a base I saw a while back on a big mek but i cannot find the picture again!!

Here's the Steel Legion Sentinel I am starting soon, well the pose anyway. Please air your views here so i can change it if you all think it sucks! I wanted to create a more dynamic in action pose for it that shows it is capable of moving and not just lumbering!!! I was just thinking,I like the way GW are overly protective of their intellectual property and then go and release this blatantly ripped off from Star Wars model. I don't blame em for doing it though at-st's are cool.  |

i really like the pose mate, maybe pull that left leg to the front a little bit though, imo the sentinel would not be able to balance properly with the leg that far back, but i really like the idea. great stuff ;D

as rogue said it wouldnt be able to balance so maybe the leg further forward
(it is def a star wars rip off mini but there cool)

Ok, thanks guys. I will pull the leg forward a bit, it is meant to be running though so it will still be off the base. The biggest problem will be balance though as the steel legion version sentinel has a lot of metal bits weighing it to one side! I have completed the base design which is basically a rocky base with a shallow puddle in the middle. I will probably make a snow covering for it and was wondering is bicarbonate of soda better than that GW expensive stuff? The paintjob will of course be weathered, it's in a war after all and wiil probably have something like a knackered old viper/x-wing style colouring with a red stripe somewhere on it. Hopefully it will work. We'll see and I'll post pictures when I've completed a leg or something.

do you know what would be cool, for this to run i see the legs as being like a hydraulic system, so if it sorta jumps as the hydralics pump the legs, so if you put it in the air with that foots thats on the ground with a bit of strong wire, only half centimetre or so and bring that back leg so the foot is just off the base, what do you think dfb?

I think I'll keep one foot on the base, the metal on it is too heavy for something like that, for the regular sentinel it would work thoguh. I did have an idea for a diorama using these models and a jumping through the air one features in it. This will be a main project for alot later on, I'd like to enter it into a Golden Demon competition and see how it does for a laugh - maybe next year when my painting has hopefully improved. I nearly won £1000 on a games magazine (N64) art competiton a long time ago for a model I built (most of the entries were drawn artwork though!), but it came 2nd and the prize was pretty naff next to a £1000 worth of Dixons vouchers (it was a game!).
Edit - forgot to mention, i ordered some of those tiny little magnets last night to allow weapon choice customisation in some of my models, anyone use these on their own stuff and do they work ok???
I will be posting pictures of a completed ogre butcher and the ogre pirate bsb pretty soon!!

You definitely got the knack for conversions down mate. Congrats on that win a while back, definitely worth all that time when you see a positive return.

Just a small update, as I've been struggling to get good pictures. I may invest in a light tent and three lamps very shortly as I'm fed up with one lamp and my tripods gone missing. Here is the bikes radio I made to replace the banner pole which I'm not very fond of. The third biker will be a standard bearer to make up for it!   I will be painting a test base tonight with a quarted coloured scheme around the edge and maybe weathering to match the rough and ready character of these marines as I've painted them. The base itself will be a basic treadplate pattern with random additional detailing across them - shell cases etc. This theme will carry across all the mini's I think although I quite fancy a muddy base as well. I have also found a colour scheme for the sergeant in the old armour - go here and look at the picture on the left..... www.pbase.com/tepoc/image/39015297. Here's a completed test base. I'm happy with it and I think I'll use it. It will take alot more time to do al the marines on these bases, but it matches the paint scheme and will hopefully add to visual appeal rather than make it too overpowering. If people think that this is too much I may go with a grey colour scheme instead as this looks quite effective next with red and yellow. The plastic on the treadplate got melted a little by the GW spray. Tiny hard to see holes appeared and it was actually really wierd to paint. My thin wash of black disappeared after it dried and I had to use hardly any water to get the wash on. I will have to hand prime them I think.More work.  |

The marines will be mind blowing jnr, coz I've sent them to you for painting via a 24 hour courier - if you could have them painted for me by the end of next week I'd be much obliged. Hehehe.
Seriously, though I'm pleased it turmed out to peoples satisfaction - I thought because it is messy it may not appeal. As it turns out messy=neat. A much needed look for supposedly battle hardened soldiers in my opinion. They have had shiny armour for too long, time to mess it up!! I have a little formula for the dirty look of this army now, so it is becoming easier to paint. The terminators will follow the formula to a slightly lesser degree. Though they will have blood splats from their close combat chainfist weapons etc.
**UPDATE***
These Terminators will all have magnets in their arms so weapons can be swapped out. I did a quick test one last night. Today I will be priming the terminators, fitting the magnets and getting the base coats of the red and yellow done on as many as I can. All the squad bases are done. Photos when I have one completed!! I bought a light tent the other day so hopefully I can get my head around taking some better pictures of my work.

Here's a little update. Just a project I have recently got myself sidelined by. I bought the empire wizard boxed set and did one as a bright wizard. The second is fully assembled and ready for priming, more on him another day. The painting is still very much in progress, but just at the stage where it needs refining. To the naked eye the figure looks quite good and I'm pleased with it, but in a blown up photo it really shows the rough edges and has peed me off a little!! Here it is.......  |

Its rocks on a lava pool. Not quite the shape i wanted actually, the top is a little too squared off for my liking. I may adjust it, we'll see. A cloud of smoke is a good idea though.

Update: As you all probably know the empire wizard box set has two bodies and absoloutely shed loads of bits for variations and of course conversions, so I will be doing more wizards! I will sculpt a couple more bodies from procreate putty and then use the bits to make it up to four wizards. Get some value for my money. Here is the other wizard, the main conversions here are the arm position to make it look like hes casting a spell and the rear of the cloak to reblend those ugly joins. I m also going to be extending the smoke from the potion bottle he will be holding into a more interesting position. Check out these photo's.....     A |
