Some really cool minis here. The black robe on the first one is really good, how did you manage that? Some tips how to highlight black? The eye thing is cool too, the biggest eye is really cool.

I am glad you like it, MP! I started out with a basecoat of pure black and then highlighted up with RMS Stormy Gray:Black 1:1, the pure Stormy Gray, then RMS Rainy Gray:Stormy Gray 1:1, and then a very thinned down Rainy Gray. I then went tack over the area with very thin black to tone it down (it was overhighlighted I thought). The key is to keep the paint thin so the transitions are subtle. In my limited experience, both black and white are very unforgiving with regards to transitions--they have to be very subtle to look natural without gradations.

Again I think the mind flayer is great, the cloak is absolutely awesome mate. Still not keen on the beholder but again I just don't like those minis not your painting of it.

I think they both look really cool, I love the purple of the flayers skin.

Nearly done with the flayer now. I like the NMM gold better, but it's still not too convincing. The photo doesn't show it too well, but I dotted all the little gems on the trim with the same color as the staff.

i think you have a great job on this so far, it looks fantastic, i can see the gems on the cloak they look cool, i quite like how the nmm has come out, it is on fabric after all so it doesnt have to look like real gold i think you can get away with it, how are you basing it up or are you just keeping it on the cast base attatched?

After all those lines and dots on the flayer I decided to go with something...decidedly more simple. My brother needed a riding dog for his druid pet. I clipped the tail and went for Rott coloring. The partially untied Celtic knot is the symbol for warding/shielding. I really need to work on my freehand...

yeah Its really cool. the only thing I tghink could be better is the eyes, they are too white to look dogish, maybe have some more browns in them?

Ahh, good suggestion Razh. I knew something wasn't quite right and couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks!

i agree about the eyes, looks great overall and the free hand is not bad at all, perhaps one more point, it could use some shading or highlighting to define the ears from the side view because on first take it looks like it does not have them but they are clearly visible on the front ;D

Yep with the eyes if you look at dog's eyes they have very large pupil/iris parts and the whites are more of a browny colour. Alter that and you have a belter of a mini.

*Gasp* This thread had nearly dropped to the 3rd page! I have been working on things slowly, but my main project has been under wraps...my step by step for EFS has taken up most of my painting time. I did manage to get some more done on the eyebeast, mostly on the basework:

Hehe, I be inclined to Brue, but this one is promised to a friend of mine here in the states. It is going to be one of his arch villians in a D&D campaign he is running.
@dfb--glad you like the base! I think it needs a bit more highlighting, but is coming along nicely.
