Great work all around Jabber, I am particularly a fan of the highlights on that last blue monstrosity...

Gotta agree on the highlights.. needs 'ping', very intense blue aswell, are you going for a comic look?? if so weathering may be a contradiction...hmmmm..interested to see what happens here!

Gotta agree on the highlights.. needs 'ping', very intense blue aswell, are you going for a comic look?? if so weathering may be a contradiction...hmmmm..interested to see what happens here! The blue is quite intense and not something I would have chosen myself, but since this is an exchange mini, I wanted to try and keep it close to his original pieces. Here is one of his original post pictures with the color scheme:

Here is a bit more done. I tried to go back and deepen the shadows on the legs. The torso is not attached, but I wanted to give you all an idea of what the final stance is going to look like. As you can see, plenty of shading and highlighting to do yet on the torso. What do you think of the cockpit? Should I take the highlights up more? The RMS blood triad tends to dry shiny, so hopefully some dullcoat will take that out. The irregularities on the left side of the cockpit are from the model--too late now to smooth it out... The left arm has the paint rubbed off as it was one of the spots where I was holding the torso. I like the unintended weathering effect, so I'll have to see if I want to carry that over to the rest of the model...

Looks great mate the blue us particularly nice, I agree the cockpit could do with a little something else but on the whole a very nice job. I might try to add a tiny bit of fence to the base to try and give the impression of size to the vehicle, I am not sure how you would do that though.

maybe you could run a white highlight down the cockpit just where we can see the light reflecting of it in the pic! lots of watered layers so it blends in nicely

The bottom is pretty much done. I'll be securing the torso and highlighting it. What do you think of the weathering? The Red Sun/crossed swords logo is the receiver's avatar.

In the home stretch on the CAV. The pics aren't as good as I would like--the highlighting looks better in hand. Any last minute suggestions?

For some one who is not a big fan of this type of mini I think this is bloody ace, that blue is simply gorgeous, the only thing that I think could be improved is the canopy over the cockpit but please don't ask me how.

Dude, this mini is awesome! The blue is just amazing, I don't think there is anything else which can be done to improve this!

On to the next one. This one will be another sold for charity. Very early on, and mostly more of a color scheme test than anything. When I got this one, I was imagining her as a desert barbarian type, dark skinned and wearing bronze armor. A couple of questions for the crew--I feel like there is too much bronze going on. I have made some of the bits leather will bronze trim (as on the top and hip pads. Should I keep going with that? Perhaps make the leggings leather with just bronze knee guards? The other thing is the leather bits themselves. They seem to be blending in to me, with either the bronze armor or dark flesh tones (VMC Flat Earth). I was thinking maybe I should switch to more of gray to provide some contrast?

Got a bit more done. I like her better than before, but still have a lot of highlighting to do. I'm having trouble getting the browns separated, but hopefully with the additional highlighting I can get it done.

*Dusts of the thread* This fella is for a local comp, so hit me hard with the critiques. There are a few limitations on the contest, in that there are no conversions allowed and no extra mini bits can be added to the base--you have to use "standard basing materials". I was going for a sickly look for this guy. The skin it a bit flat in the picture, but it is a pale grey-green (RMS Pale Lichen) and is highlighted up to white. I am most interested in what you all think regarding the OSL on the eyes and base. The front half of the base will be covered with water effects--I was trying to get him to be summoning something out of the muck. I will probably add some little greenstuff bubbles to add to the effect. The red is mostly done as well. The metallics and black are pretty early on yet. Any suggestions on how to make the scroll old and tattered? Right now it is based with only VGC bone white. Ok, one more thing...freehand suggestions on the flowing tail of the robe (or none at all?)? Thanks!

the blue on the eyes could use more highlights upto a paleish blue imo, the skin looks very flat, but as you say in real life looks different so that is hard to judge, for free hand maybe you could try a line or two of glyphs or ancient text going across the bottom, i dont know what anyone else would think of that and for the scroll i would go with a dirty looking light brown, maybe use gw desert yellow, thats all i would say for now, but its a nice lookin mini, what manufacturer is it?

Thanks for the critiques, Rogue. On the eyes, do you mean I should lighten the center of the eyes?
