Since I am having trouble finishing a mini , I thought I should create my own dedicated WIP thread instead of cluttering up the forums with all my WIP's hehe. So, here is the latest. I seem to be on a pastel kick at the moment. I really need to get something with with either big guns or lots of blood next to restore my manliness... This the the Crane Courtier. The dress color scheme is fashioned after a Korean hanbok. The base is completed and is the skin for the most part. I may fiddle with the eyes some more. The darklining is a bit thick, so I'll be going back to thin those lines some. There will eventually be some freehand along the lower half of the dress. Some of the paint has rubbed off where I handled her on the crown and hem of the dress, which will be remedied with the next post. It was my first go at the use of water effects as well. Critiques? Here is the base alone:

Love the base, how'd you do the water? The mini is really nice too. Great colour choices. Can't wait to see it finished.

Here is the nearly complete base on Starmane as well. One question--I want to create the illusion of this outcrop being high off the ground. I was planning on leaving the actual base black as opposed to putting ground cover. Yea or nay?

Mmm I like the mini alot, the colours are bright and veibrant. Starmanes base is promising I am not sure how to achieve the effect you want though.

The base was your standard base primed in white. I then used a very thinned down Reaper MSP Breonne Blue and painted it on. I just the let brush run and kept the coat uneven, allowing the white primer below to show through to various degrees. I then put a thin layer of GW water effects over the top.

Here is the latest on Starmane. I need to do a bit more blending on the body and will be doing a freehand design on the flank that incorporates the child's 3 initials.

That is rocking mate, the freehand will realy set it off, I think the tail main and hair around the hooves needs a little more work but it is looking ace.

Looks good so far. Curious how that freehand turns out In a way I also like the rock, but it seems too artifical to me, the even layers on each other and the flat surface, like a piece of highway .

I was trying to recreate a rocky outcropping of slate rock...ah well . The girl's initials are O.L.H. so I have come up with a sort of intertwined monogram of those 3 letters. Here is the rough sketch:

Here is the latest on the crane courtier. I am not too happy with the result...lots of little lines and dots for me to mess up. The hair and crown are a still flat yet. Any other suggestions? Here is the Korean hanbok the dress was modeled after:

Here is something not...pink. Since there are so many LoTR fans here, I thought I might work on something along those lines. He is nearly all basecoated and I have done some additional shading and highlighting on the armor. Once I get it where I want it, I be going back over it to rust it up a bit. I'll also add a bowstring and arrow. It has been so long since I purchased this mini, I can't remember: is that the proper size base?

Very nice, the skin is particularly good, dirty up that armour and you are on to a winner.

It has been a while since I posted a WIP (which is not to say I haven't been working on a couple of secret projects for one particular online contest... ). Here the the Moria gobbie with a little rusting and some additional work on the skin. I'll be adding a bowstring and arrow as well--for which I am also doing a tutorial.

For goblins, orcs, Uruk-Hai etc. I always work on the armour first. I drybrush everything Tin Bitz (if you use the GW paints) then more lightly drybrush Boltgun Metal and then add a very tiny dash of Mithril Silver for highlighting. I then work on everything else which is non-metallic. It leaves you with a good rusty effect. Great work thoough Jabber, I need to see more of everything!!
