Thanks James, yes I did get the villager and will be using that with another Ilyad mini that I have. i have just added snow to the base and am waiting for that to dry, once that is done the scabbard should be complete and then I can add that too. Matty of course you can save the pics if you realy want to mate.
Now this is done I can make a start on my CIN models, I have got one cleaned and ready to go.

The big guy Raum is on hold for a day or two as I figure out a way to hold the mini without damaging already painted areas, so I have started this chap the new Empire standard bearer from WHFB. Very early stages at the moment but this is the first mini that I have tried to paint properly in my new glasses and so far I am happy with the results. Hopefully the rest will go as well as this early start.

Glad to see that model is going to use! Looks like you have made a great start, the photo is a bit small to see all the detail, but the white is looking very nice as is the detailing on the face.

Excellent work on the orc Tim. I can't wait to see what you'll do with the standard bearer. You're metallics are truely amazing, I've often used your minis for reference when doing my metallics.

Looks good. Can't wait to see it finished. I have one concern though, I think the torso looks a bit small compared to the rest.

As I said on OR, it looks great.
mutantpotato-The short torso is I think a mixture of WFB fantasy proprtions which are hardly true to life, and the fact that it is based off armour in which the "belt" is rather far above the waist line. In real life this was so that the knight could easily sit on a horse without the armour getting in the way (some German armour was made for foot knights and was a solid block extending down to the knees). The tassets would not go all around the legs, they "break" in both the front and back so that they did not stop the knight from riding a horse either. The empire knight looks decently accurate in this respect, his armour would theoretically function correctly.

Thanks guys glad to see he is meeting with approval, Rahz I think that Talabheim will be the theme though I will have to reverse the colours for the opposite sleeve which won't be a problem, as for the proportions I can't help the way the mini is sculpted but I like it alot. Here is a closer and larger look at the moni with some of the standard cropped out for a closer view of the progress so far. Hope you like it.

TIM:
Resting Wizard: Black is such a hard color to highlight, but you are doing a very good job at it. May I suggest some water effects under the rock, so it looks like he is resting beside a lake?
Ork: The camo is coming out great. Might need another highlight to keep it from blending too much.
Wolfen: The second pic of the wolfen looks much better than the final shot. Looks like you washed it with a brown... which makes the blends smoother, but I was really digging the striated effects of the second picture. Maybe another highlight or two to bring those back up.
Skintone one: What the heck is it?
EDIT: Sorry mate, didn't realize how long the thread was... so, to try and help:
Empire Hero: Coming out great. Love the red inside the creases.
One last suggestion would be to post all the pics at the beginning of the thread, much easier to navigate and offer critiques on what you are currently working on.

Ok guys thanks for the feedback, @mousekiller this is a rolling thread so it is usually the last page or two that are currnet works, I have done a bit more to this guy, I am still finding my way with the glasses but the results I am getting are more than encouraging. seeing the difference in different tones of paint is starting to get a little easier though I still have a way to go. This mini is more about getting something finished than just going for quality. I expect the quality to improve as time goes on but I am still fairly happy with that side of it too. there is a little bit of tidying up to do in the odd place, also I am going to hit some of the red parts again with another highlight though I don't want to lose the red tone too much by going lighter. also the metal areas are not yet finished, I have some washes to apply yet.

I was going to suggest more contrast on the metallics, then i read the last bit of your post lol
Those white are blinding! Especially for a black base. I would also take the highlights up quite a bit on the boots. I reckon the red is fine, but you could go deeper instead of brighter so the red stays as it is.

the boots have only been basecoated and then shaded with a wash of dark brown they will be alot lighter when completed.
The difficulty with the metals is there is not alot of contour to work with so I am having to force the highlights which is not easy.

absolutely awesome! I find white very difficult to make good looking but you have done a brilliant job. Í love the red, which colours do you use for that? (well red obviously but which sorts? blood red etc )

Cheers Andre
for red I use
Scab Red two or three thin coats is best to get an even coverage Red Gore apply this over the basecoat leaving a little Scab Red showing, Mix in Blood Red gradually for each highlight working up to pure Blood Red, Then Blood Red with a little Blazing Orange to finish.
The thing to watch for is the orange when you add it whilst it is wet in small quantities it is hard to see the change but boy does it show when it dries out so if you over do it just go back over it again with a less light/ orangy tone.

Looking really nice at this stage Tim. Looks like you paint a lot like myself, in stages. One piece at a time so as to not miss anything. About the head, does he have grey stubble on his head? If so, please tell me how you achieve that.
Really great looking at this point.
