I have gone back to my first love at the momnent Lotr this is Sharkey from the Scouring of the Shire set. Having done the four mounted Hobbits it is now time to turn my attention to Sharkey and then Worm, here is Sharkey about two thirds done. I am going to highlight the cloak another time but I don't want to lose the dark character of the mini after all Saruman was just as dangerous as Sharkey after his demise at the hand of the ents. The next time I post him will probably be in the showcase section when he is done.

Very nice mate! Just one question though: who is Sharkey?

Sharkey is Saruman after the LOTR saga, not sure how he didn't die, but I assume it was the same way that Gandalf didn't die after the fight with the Balrog either. Tim.........?

Ok here is a very brief run down on Sharkey and who he is, the PJ films didn't show the demise of Saruman correctly. After the Ents went to War against Isenguard and Saruman, Gandalf charged Treebeard to keep Saruman prisoner in the tower. This he did but Saruman managed to escape with Grima (not like in the RotK where Grima stabbed him in the back). After his escape Saruman went to the Shire to cause mischief, in fact mischief had already started. The big folk were already there digging up the Shire and knocking down Hobbit Holes to make mills and the like. This was all being done on Saruman's behalf only now he called himself Sharkey and took up residence in Bag End. when the Hobbits returned from Gondor they roused the Shire against Sharkey and his henchmen and threw them out. Frodo saw fit to let Sharkey aka Saruman go and also tried to get Grima aka Worm to leave his master and start anew. Sharkey then taunted and kicked Worm brutally, this enraged Grima Wormtongue so much that he came up behind Sharkey and cut his throat. This was called "The Scouring of the Shire". Hope that helps Raccy.

Helps a great deal mate, I only have actually read FOTR and about half of TTT then I gave up on them (I was only about 9 or 10 at the time). I really must read all of them again.

Looks great, Tim. I dark the subtle highlighting on him. And thanks for the LoTR history lesson. I had no idea Saruman survived the attack by the Ents! I really should read those books...

Hi continuing on the Lotr theme and this also ties in with The One Ring website. I am now painting a rider of Rohan for the second painting school I am currently doing the horse and am pretty close to finishing it. Then the rider will be dealt with in a stage by stage type thread. I also plant to do a Royal Guard to show how I go about painting the more heroic minis. Anyway here is the horse So far I have 20 individual photos of the stages I have gone through to get to this stage, once I have the horse completed and the base done I might turn it into an article for our site. Anyway I hope you like it so far.

Hi guys just thought I would post a quick update of the Ridoer of Rohan, I have now come a long way on this mini and it will not be long before it is completed, I need to finish a few details and add a couple more highlights here and there and then the shield, I have decided to make a project out of this and make a small Rohan hunting party consisting of about a half dozen minis. I'll post progress as I go.

What can I say? In all honesty you may be the best or at least damn near best in the world...your minis define what a painted miniature should look like!

I thought that I would put this here now that the contest is over and I missed it by a mile, he is now pretty much done apart form a small knife in its scabbard that I am painting at the moment. I have had to crop some of the base out as it makes the image of the actual Orc too far away and this makes the image too small. I am thinking of adding some patchy snow to the base as well but haven't decided on that yet.
