Tim... That's a brilliant model, Going to have to get that when that comes out, lots of character.
And you're doing a fantastic job with it... more than fantastic actually. Great work!

Well now that the commissions are out of the way I can get back on with Boromir that I am painting for the One Ring's article section the first part of which has been written, submitted and approved btw. So today I have been working on him and here are a couple of pics showing the mini with the sword blade and gloves completed. Since these pics were taken I have completed the bracers and the hilt of the sword, all that is left to do are the boots, scabbard and base and then it is back to writing part two.

Great expression! What mini is it? Looks like LotR range, but how can you paint like that on such small miniatures??

Thank Magie the mini is indeed from the Lotr range, it is Celeborn. As for how I get the expression I am not sure really it just seems to happen, here are some step by step photos. It is all in the shading really.

Thanks that's very helpful! Funny that you paint your eyes after painting the rest of the face, I would be so scared to mess up everything. Definitely will try your method

Another great start, Tim! The mini step-by-step tut is much appreciated as well. The eyes look a bit off, but at this ultra close up, that's to be expected.

Thanks guys, MaGie I always do the eyes after the shading is done, it is far easier to mend mistakes at this point than wait until the face is done and then mess it up completely, I have lost count of the times I have done that and I have learned my lesson well. Jabber the eyes are off but to be honest he is lucky to have eyes at all as they are nonexistent on the mini, anyway here are another couple of WIPs, I am really happy with how the robe has come out.

Brilliant, it looks like pure silk! The base looks nice as well, is it self-made?

Oooh, nicely done! Excellent blending of a challenging color, especially on the torso and right arm.

Love where you heading with Celebron Tim. One thing that bothers me a bit is the deep rims in his forehead though...
Might be the sculpt ?
Robes are ace!

Cheers guys, @tim the general feedback I am getting is the same about the forehead and I will be readdressing that before the mini is finished. The trouble is going to be matching it all up. I may just lighten the darkest parts of the frown lines.

Just a small update today, started working on the sash and also tweaked the face a little. I've just got to try and work out now how to do a silvery type thread now for the chord. I might have to go down the nmm route.

Face looks much better, he doesn't look like he's been slashed across the forehead now. Still amazed you get that kind of detail on such small minis. Clever git!!

Agreed--the face does look better with less pronounced forehead wrinkles.

Thanks guys I am still not totally happy with it but it looks much better now. I may tweak it further before the end I am just scared of buggering it up completely though.

The forhead looks fine to me (but then again, I'm nowhere near as good a painter as you ). Remember these minis aren't supposed to be viewed close up and zoomed in. At arms length I bet you don't even notice the forhead wrinkles as anything other than a furrowed brow

So for the latest update, I have done the outer robe and apart from a couple of extra highlights and shades here and there it is pretty much done, which just leaves the hair and necklace to do on the mini. The colour was an experiment, I wanted a light colour for the robe but at the same time i wanted to keep the colours overall looking cold. Though I wasn't too sure of how it looked at first, now that it is 99% done I am really happy with it.

Yes, the color scheme is excellent--I really like the teal for the outer robes.

I didn't see that coming! Right now, it's a bit bright to my taste (I'm only used to the traditional GW colours on this mini), but I think it will look very nice if the whole mini is done.

Looking forward to seeing how that big guy turns out. I have been working on Celeborn some more, I have re "tweaked" the face a bit and now think it looks alot better. I have done the hair and that I am not at all happy with. After studying the character from watching the movies again I wanted to try and give him the light hair colour he has. the trouble is the hair on the model is not very well sculpted at all and with no definition to any of it makes it harder to do. So I will be going back over it at some point to try and make it look better. But I have had enough of this for now so have moved on and started a couple of Otherworld skellies. Pics as soon as I have something to show.
