Well a little more done to the Dwarf, I have been really busy this week decorating but still managed to get some done even so. That is probably the last painting I will get done this week so probably no more updates until the middle of next week now. Hope you like it.

Well after doing my best to end my painting hobby by severely injuring myself whilst decorating the house and having to wait for the injury to heal I have managed to finish the Dwarf. Thankfully with no detriment to my painting ability. I have lost the feeling in my right thumb now permanently but fortunately I am left handed and only use my right hand to hold the mini whilst painting. This does give me one or two problems as there are angles at which I hold minis now where I really have to concentrate as I just can't feel it in my grip. Anyway enough warble here are the pics. I had taken pics of it off the support but I had dropped it and there were a couple of parts that needed retouching. I am just waiting for these bits to dry and will then retake the photos and upload them to my gallery. Now on to number 3.

Thanks all, well after painting two of the shitty plastic dwarves I wanted something of better quality to paint so I decided i would paint the Spyglass monk figure next. So far he has been alot of fun to paint. I wasn't sure what colour to do the robe, I know I didn't want the typical brown robe for the monk so thought the green on the Lotr Dwarves is working well I would use it here too. I like it so far I hope you do too.

Thanks again guys, got some more done to the mini whilst over at James's the other day and had a go with the Bedab Black wash too on the metals. I am totally sold on them so went and bought the set from Maelstrom games. When the set arrives I will carry on with the mace head.

Hi, i really love your work, it is always stunning!! But now, after several painting workshops i have learned one thing! You must have an external light source! It seems like the light on you mini has a similar intense every were. For better understanding because i dont know wether i can express my self good enough : the lightest colour tone is everywhere on the mini the same. The bottom of the cloak has the same lightest (brightest?) colour like the top. But the bottom must be darker. And if you have mastered this you can win nearly every contest regards. Alex

You must have an external light source! I think he means you should give zenithal lighting a go! Tbh I agree, dont take this the wrong way because I have alot of respect for your stuff, its clean simple and very effective, it baffles me how you get such contrast with such smooth blending, but do you ever think that you might be sticking to your comfort zone a little? Id really love to see you do somethin larger, more intricate, more complicated, really push the boat out into the region of the unknown... Also, how do the new washes handle? I know that they dont have that horrible gloss finish now, but wots the difference between bedab black and watered down chaos black?

Yep I know what you are saying but I like my comfort zone and there is a saying about old dogs and tricks. I leave all that fancy new stuff to you young ones. Also I don't like experimenting as the thought of ruining minis is not a thought I want to make real. As for the washes so far they handle great. No need to thin them down you can use them straight out of the pot. They are no good for fresh blood though as the matt finish is not what you need there tamiya clear red is the way to go now the inks have gone or alternatively W&N inks are just as good. As for bigger stuff I have done a fair bit of bigger stuff in my time and when it arrives I will be painting a fairly big model soon.

Personally I tink that your comfort zone is in a league of its own, and while you stay there, you'll get the minis done the way you like them AND still win contests as you do. Plus I think that a lighting effect would hav ruined this one due to the way it's painted, and again I only think that it works on minis painted dark enough in the 1st place.
The new washes are tip top, and this comes from an avid ink user, I've not touched my inks since I started with the new washes. As Tim stated they can be used straight from the pot and give enough shading to be used in one go, but can also be built up in two or three washes to provide deep shading. Good product aimed soley at the painting side of the hobby, at last from the ol GW.

in all honesty tim i think its a shame to hear that, I do think your work is of a very high class, but i cant help thinking if you challenged yourself more that you could really improve the depth of your work and take it to much higher levels and i dont think it would be that difficult for you, wots the worst that could happen? its not like you cant strip your minis....
