Hi Guys, Finaly got round to putting some words together for this post.
All I'm going to be doing is showing you guys what we're up to at Daemonscape and hopefully get some feedback for new progects.
I'll start with our new Sci-Fi Turret, 28mm scale.
Over the next few days I'll be explaining haw we did the build on this turret and where the ideas came from, but for now I'll have to go and do some more sculpting, Sci-Fi fortifications for my Imperial guard to hide behind.
Later :0)

Thanks guys, I don't mind who sorts the code out as long as the pics are there. The Turret emplacement will be up for sale by the weekend as I've got to do a couple of alternative gun types and a set of vision slits for the minis to look out of. I'll do you 2 a deal for looking after the pics, I'm illiterate with all things technical, including the iron and lawn mower!!! I'm in the proses of finishing the first order to the original guy who requested them in Australia, He only wants the base as he has 10 spare Leman Russ turrets to go on them!!! I'd hate to take on the army that sits behind that lot LOL!!! Anyway Back to how the Turret was built I think!! :0) First, take 1 idea from the other side of the world (cheers Rob) and do a little digging in the trusty WW2 books. I was asked to try and modify the existing 6mm scale bunkers for use in 28mm Sci-Fi as a Turret bunker. Q next Pic :0) This pic shows the donor bunker with all the 6mm scale detail filled in and a nice new plasticard top. The design of the vision slit on the rear door has been taken from the German Tiger tank (WW2) as it fits with the overall theme of the turret. Next Pic. This is a close up pic of the Turret under construction, the Gun shaft is square so I can sculpt the barrels without them rotating and causing much pain and head aches. Time for bed, I'll finish off tomorrow If the kids let me, Who's idea was it to have 4 kids and work at home!!!! Oh yeh, Mine LOL!!!

Cheers Matt,
I'll be working on a twin linked set up that should see you right as well as a long barrel particle cannon and a gattling gun and missile silo and....... the list goes on and on!!!

O.K. Time for the next instalment of How to build a Turret. The bulkheads of the Turret are 2mm thick to give plenty of surface area to stick the side walls to and enable me to smooth off all the untidy bits without destroying the piece. Next comes the top and side walls. As the bulkheads are all different widths and angles from the centre BH forwards, The side walls end up forming a smooth wedge shape as seen on most military instalations of this type, designed to deflect high velocity rounds over the top. Once this is all done and dry its time to get the sand paper out to smooth the whole thing down ready for detail.

I like the twin linked Ass' cannons Matt but I think you'll like what I've done even more (bigger is always better!! ;D)Why have 2 little gattling guns when you can have one great big one, I think I'll christen it the Hell Cannon, "All hail the Hell cannon" I think I need to go take my sanity pills now !!! The long barreled piece is intended to be a Rail gun of sorts or particle Cannon, Can some one please give it a name. I tried to fit a twin linked set of barrels to the Turret this morning but to no avail, the front of the Turret is just too narow> Time to start work on the MK2 Turret with extra width and bigger shooty guns as my kids call them. Oh yeh!! What I did while the glue was drying. Put some 28mm scale defence baricades together, Just need to detail them with a little battle damage and re-cast in to resin.

Thanks again to the folks at Daemonscape! (Terry put me onto this site as well)
I may have been the catalyst, but Terry is certainly the Master Class Model Maker whos work inspires us all.
Keep up the good work mate. My order is up next, I will be sure to post pictures once they are assembled and painted!

Welcome to World of Minis Abom, your Turrets are nearly all cast and ready to post. Still don't like the idea of taking on 10 of them, I would need a Warhound Titan or 2 ;D.
O.K. next [shadow=red,left,300]How To[/shadow] update.
Detailing the Turret. I decided that the turret would have reinforced plates down the side but not on the top or rear as shots from this angle are unlikely (I hope ;D). The plates are half mm thick plasticard with 1mm rivets in each corner to hold them in place, also made from plastic.
While there is a door on the top of the turret there are no handles to open it with, this is because on this type of defensive position I didn't want the enemy to be able to gain access to the building without being seen, so the only way in is via the rear door unless someone from inside lets you in the top hatch.
The Hatch was cut using a compass with a fine needle in the end to score a circle on both sides of the plastic and then worked back and forth until it snapped, time consuming but worth the effort for a smooth circle of plastic with no breaks.
Hand rails to the top are made from steel as plastic would snap if bent through 90deg. When doing fine detail that has to be re-cast over and over you must ensure there are no areas where air bubbles can hide, this means you have to fill in behind the hand rails, not perfect but at this scale you can't tell.
Air vents are added to the rear of the turret and boxed in with 1mm right angle plastic strip to tidy the edges up, now all that remains is filling any gaps. I use Plasticine to fill the gaps (the red filler you can see) as it gives a good smooth surface and its cheap.
A quick pic of my Ogre doods I finished the other day, Just need to get them in to battle and see how they do!!!
Detailing the Turret base next and then how to mould and cast the entire lot.

OK. Detailing the Turret base next.
Even though I've used an old 6mm scale bunker for the bulk of the base I'll fill in a little of how the original was made.
The bunker was constructed with the usual plasticard 2mm thick to give good rigidity and the over sized rivets down each corner are real rivets used on aircraft to carry out repairs to the structure. The 2 air vents to the rear of the structure are from an old dust mask.
Now, the extra detail. I flattened off the top of the bunker and added a solid steal plate (would be about 10" thick in real life) to sit the turret on while adding 2 small control panels from scrap card and some wire to run to the vents, It's very risky adding fine detail like wire looms to the base when casting in resin, if you can't get the resin in to the small areas that join the wire to the base then you'll end up with gaps in the casting, so more filling to do behind the whole length of wire.
The rear door was added to cover the 6mm scale door and to give the troops a point of entry to the complex, I was asked how the crew were supposed to stand up inside as the building is quite low!! I always imagined a complex like this to be partially subterranean to give accommodation and safety to the crew.
The steel plate on top of the base was detailed with putty round the side to give the impression of rough cut solid steel and regular holes drilled round the opening just cos I could!!! ;D
The rest you can see from the pics,
I'm still working on the extra gun types at the moment and they will come out as an added extra later this week I hope.
How to mould and cast coming next!!

A couple of quick pics of the items ready to mould.
Make a box out of the kids lego,
Tape round the inside so the silicone can't get out.
Stick lego down over pattern and mix up silicone rubber (secret formula .
Paint first layer of Sili' on to the pattern to reduce chance of air bubbles and then pour rest on top.
Leave for 12hours and hey-presto , you have a mould.
All you need to do now is take out the original and pour in some resin, Simple'ish!!!

Last part of the
[glow=red,2,300]Painting.[/glow]
For the finished item I had already decided I was going to have an Imperial Guard army to go with, and I've always loved the city fight ideas!! so it wasn't hard to come up with overall Grey as the colour.
It was intended to look like painted steel but I'm not sure if it just looks like concrete but what the hell, it look good enough for me. The missing paint effect is simple, just paint on soma random black bite to show the undercoat of the original paint and then some metal-flecks on top of that, Add some flesh wash/rust and some dark brown ink following the run of water down the side of the piece and you have effective weathering.
The black and yellow will be my unit insignia for the army as it stands out across the battlefield, I will be adding building markings like those found on WW2 vehicles as it's the small detail that adds interest in my opinion
I'll add pics of the army and the other Turrets as they get finished and try to be a better commander to the Imperium than I am to the Ogres!!
Bye for now. Maybe do a piece on my other WIP in a few days depending on time!
Now over to you guys!! your thoughts please??
And yes Matt I've nearly done the other turret tops but I'm not telling you what they are.......yet ;D ;D ;D

Have taken the warning boobies off all the posts. (If you're at work looking and you get told off, it's your own fault for looking at work when you shouldn't be)
