Well, it's be quite a while since i've put anything here, but i've got a few things to show! I've been working on Gideon lately, and this is where i am on his body: And here are the arms: So that's where i am with the Space Hulk set HOWEVER! I am currently distracted with another project! That's right! I have purchased one of our very own dfb's sculpts! It's an outstanding sculpt with a wicked amount of detail. I've been working mostly on the face (as you can probably tell) and have a few ideas for the rest. The flash did pull out a few details, but i do still like how its been turning out so far.

Hey scarecrow - glad the bust arrived safely! And good also to see painting underway so soon. The cloak is the true challenge on this bust so I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I myself wont be painting this one - all 5 of them i had done sold out so I will just have to wait to see what people come up with!

Yeah, i've basecoated the cloak already, but my idea on how to paint it requires 4 different layers just for a start >.< I haven't decided how i'm going to do the hood part yet though, since i've tossed around the idea of that being a dark shade of something...mabe red...i don't know yet, but i've started a little bit of the cloak already.
I'm hoping to work on that when i get home from work. This place is boring as hell O.o

Very challenging mate, but you are definitely off to a great start. Looking really good so far, and the sculpt is awesome as well dfb.

Pictures aren't that great, so i apologize for that. Got some more work done of the Darkhand bust. Been doing a small amount of work on the mouth, trying to get the tongue and gums the way i want. Did the eye, added a little more coloring to the face, some light red to the most notable scars, but i'm still not sure how i'm going to do the patch. I also took a swing at the cloak, but since fabric isn't my strongest subject, its...meh. I'll probably try to do a bit more blending to it at some point, but i'm more interested in the face at the moment. Either way, here you go: And one of these days i'll get back to working on gideon. He's not that far from being done, so hopefully it won't take me super long.

Cool Painting mate, After seeing this and a couple of others I might have to buy one of these to try out myself. Look forward to seeing the finished item.

Quick update on the bust: I'm a little surprised with how much i like the hood...makes me a little worried actually O.o Have some other little bits to work on (knife, leather strap on the shoulder, etc.) but i've quite enjoying it so far.

Great! The shine on the face in combination with the green makes it look demonic. And the eye... it's so realistic, scares me a bit. Very well done

I really like this one! The eye, as Magie mentioned in creepy...I like it! The teeth are wonderfully nasty as well. I'll like to see some more work on the cloak itself--some of the blends are a bit abrupt yet, IMHO.

Hey up mate, I'd agree with jabberwocky on the latter point. I do like the red tinge to the cloak you ve got going on there, maybe the whole cloak would look cool with that! the grey highlights are pretty harsh, but as jabber said, some work on smoothing the transitions would solve that. I m not sure if thats camera flash or ink making the face shiny, but i would tone the shine down a little, except on the eye and teeth obviously, but thats just my preference!
Would be interested to know what you have in mind for basing him. I know most people just insert a thin brass rod, paint it black and stick it on a block, so something more intricate would be good to see. My oriignal idea involved sculpting a column of screaming souls - representing his victims or some kind of twisted skull base. A bit busy to do that at the moment but maybe one day.

Workin on fixin those highlights. The shine on the face is coming from the camera flash, but hopefully i'll be able to find a matt varnish or something to remove that shine. Quite pleased with the eye and teeth dfb: For the basing, my original idea was to do the block thing, but your idea of the screaming souls column sounds awesome. I personally don't have any sculpting talent, though i may start working on that a little. What i may do is have a column of skulls, since those can be bought and i don't have to worry about sculpting I'm not completely sure yet, but i have an idea or two...

Okay Scarecrow, here's an idea for you. If you have access or can purchase some kind of an ornament/s, other figures of different scales or whatever just do some press moulding of their face and then twist them into position and blend it into some kind of swirling pattern on a block of wood just slightly smaller then what size you want it to be. You don't have to sculpt it yourself, just make some press moulds basically!!!

That's a brilliant idea! And it could go perfect with my current idea, which was to have a column of skulls, and in the spaces in between could be the faces!

When you make the press moulds use milliputt/greenstuff combo, this should give you a nice surface to press into and also a much stronger mould to give it some pressure when you are making the casts. one idea for you could be to do skulls around the bottom of the base, make a ridge and then some kind of decoration around the top edge of the skulls to make it look like its some kind of stone altar that a stream of swirling souls/faces is pouring out of.

I like the sounds of that. I'm gonna have to do some drawings of this before i attempt to make it. When i draw it up, i'll post a couple of them to get some feedback.

That column is looking ace mate!! Nicely done, I would blend the faces together with some mystical swirling stuff!!! Some skulls around the bottom may look cool as well. Only thing i would say is that the bottom circle doesn't look centrally positioned under the pipe, but that may be the photo angle?

Ha ha, i hadn't even noticed about the bottom disk. I'll reposition it really quick so it's centered. Thanks for point that out. Hmm...mystical swirling stuff...i may have to practice that a bit before i apply it to the column. I'd hate to have put all this work into the faces and what not only to have swirls ruin the whole thing but i like the idea! Cheers dfb!

Well, i may have to start the column over. The faces are how i want, but the clay i'm using is causing some inssues. It tends to dry with a very rough look no matter what i do to it, and it is making the green stuff faces extremely dirty with clay that doesn't want to come off. I went to add the swirls and the clay seemed to dry on some of the green stuff faces and i can't get it off. Not really bothered by this though since it gives me a chance to do a better job on some of the faces and remove the sculpting lines. Oh well.

Had to start over on the column, but the basic construction is underway. One end of the tube (it's a cut up bottle since it's all i really had on hand) is currently drying on the bottom disk and i can't really touch it without risking the shape being lost. Got my milliput (ordered online) and my sculpting tools (a 12 piece set that looks awesome) and once i get the basic construction done, i can do the faces again and they'll hopefully turn out a little better then before. Hopefully i'll have some pictures eventually.

That high elf is looking very good, nice hair and armour and the face looks very neatly done too, should score well on cmon with that!
The columns faces need some more definition, teeth etc and twist them a bit like on the old one some more. Obviously some real over exaggerated expressions of a tortured or angry soul will help make it work more. I like the additional detailing on the bevelled ridge at the bottom as well. don't forget to leave enough of a gap to allow for the details/mystic swirly stuff between the column surface and the beginning of the edge of the face/cheekbones, although this would make it look more like the face is just about to appear through the stuff so i guess having some faces like that would look interesting to.

Some teeth, eh? I may have pretty minimul sculpting experience, but i think i can pull that off. I'm a little confused on the mystic/swirling stuff, since once i started to think about it, i realized i didn't know how to do that and have it look nice. I like the idea of having a few faces just starting to appear, and i will definitly try to work something like that into this.

Wow that face looks amazing! Very well done! The gold also looks very good. Can't wait to see some more on this one.... The column is starting to look very nice also. Some teeth is a good idea, but some of the faces look very great without. Like old men who forgot to put in their removable teeth (or whatever you would call that) Keep it coming!

i know your experience is minimal with sculpting but it is doable for sure. First add lip definition onto each face, they have gaping wide mouths so it will definately look odd without further work. When you have done the lips, start with one face and keep working it until it looks right, use it as a practice and rip it out and start again if it doesn't turn out.Just do a little crescent shaped blob into the mouth, press it down and blend it and then press in the teeth using a fine needle. then add the tongue.
