I have allways enjoyed "Desktop Shot of The Week" by Jakob Nielsen, and I find it interesting to see what's going on at a talented painters desk. Even though I am not as talented as JRN, I thought it could be fun to do something similiar. And the weekly desktop shot shows what I have done during the week and it's quite motivating to myself too. I have allways been a lazy painter, and I hope this helps me to do more work on minis and push myself to paint more. I will only show one photo at the end of every week, and other WIP shots will be in the WIP section. Desktop Shot of The Week #1: Here you see some of my WIP's and the bases I have been working on lately. I have just bought my first sheet of cork, and a bag of wine bottle corks.

@ Raccy:if he'd drunk the amount of wine it takes to get this many corks, he'd sleep under aforementioned table, wouldn't he?

Good idea Mikkel I think this should be a thread to post our workspaces collectively, I will put a pic up later of what is on my desk at the moment, that is after I have tidied up a bit.

Wow. I'm amazed I got this many replies already Nice to see that WoM is still alive ;D We already have a "post your workplace" thread, and I originally intended this thread for my own stuff to show my progress. But if you guys want to post up your workplace feel free to do so. I will update every sunday anyway And yeah, after drinking 25 bottles of wine I think I will get pretty drunk lol

Desktop Shot of The Week #2: I started to paint the cork bases, and I'm finished with two of them (just need to add some grass and vegetation). I have to add some more resin water though, the user manual said that the resin would expand, but in my case the resin has greatly decreased. I have done some more work on my goblin shaman, cave troll and gandalf. I managed to drybrush grey over his hand so I'll have to repaint it I have also started on two test models for my upcoming Dark Angels army (yeah I know, 3rd army project at the same time lol). And my camera just stopped working today, so I had to take the picture with my sisters mobile phone

What does the 'golden' stuff do? I read that you have been experimenting with it on your WIP thread.

What does the 'golden' stuff do? I read that you have been experimenting with it on your WIP thread. The golden stuff is a glaze. You mix the glaze with a mid tone colour and some water and paint it normally over the desired area. It makes the difference between the lightest and darkes colours softer and make the transitions smoother (am I right Dennis?). Menace is the man to talk about this stuff, he gave me the advice and I think he has been using it for a while.

Ah gotcha, so its a glaze medium, i use glazes for, as you say, toning and smoothening transistions. But i didn't know there was an actually liquid medium for it, iv always just used water.

Me too I'll have to investigate this.

You're dead right Mikkel, and you can use neat medium with the very smallest amount of paint, saves a fortune in the long run... using very little paint to glaze and allowing an apropriate drying time (the medium retards drying) give you great control over your blending and fixing those all to noticable botches!

Desktop Shot of The Week #3: Sorry for the late update. I had to take the pictures with my sisters camera phone and didn't have the time to post them up last night. The pictures are from yesterday though. I have been very busy in the past week. Every week before a holiday the teachers turns into deamons and torture the studens with as much homework, tests, and essays they possibly can throw at us. And I had my birthday on friday, so I've had friends and family over the entire weekend. But I suppose you don't care what's going on in my personal life so I'll start with the mini related things I am still modelling my two competition entries. I am searching for bitz that can suit the bases, as I have decided to not use cork afterall. I am really behind schedule, so I have to kickstart the painting if I want to get them finished in time. I have a goal, by next desktop shot (next sunday) I will have prepped, pinned, glued, based and primed both of the minis and started painting them. I have a whole week off now so I think I'll be able to glue some pieces of metal together by the end of the week

I got some of the Glaze medium, Vallejo Game Colour make a bottle of it. It seems pretty good but has very loooonnnng drying times. Useful though as it had ALOT of surface tension and i could literally 'move' it about with the brush. But i may have to get the hair dryer out in the future.

Maybe because I used the one from Golden and you used the one from Vallejo.

Well iv been using it on the Cryx fella for highlighting, and a quick 15 second blast with the hair dryer seems to sort things out.
