The First Worldofminis Competition

Hi all this is to announce that the first Worldofminis competition is nearly upon us and will be open to all active members, when I say active I mean that I would like to see that any entrants participate in the forum discussions from time to time. The competition is a concept art competition and the idea is to design a miniature based on the site name, the winning design will then be used to produce a sculpt and then a cast of the mini.

Once the mini hhas been sculpted the winner of the comp will recieve a production cast of his entry, also the design will then be modified slightly so that a regular production cast can be made and then members of Worldofminis can then obtain these through the site.

There are two categories,

Fantasy

Sci-Fi,

But please note that there will only be ONE[/u] design picked to be produced. Artistic ability is not the factor here what I am looking for are unique and original ideas, though we do need to see where your ideas are going.
The scale of the mini will be around 28mm scale.
Once the competition closes the designs will be placed in a thread on the competitions forum and a voting system will be set up for members to vote for their first,second and third place choices, the final decision will be made by the admin of the site.

We are proud to announce that Eastern Front Studios have kindly agreed to undertake the sculpt and production of the miniature and also will be supplying prizes for the second and third place entries, so I must say a very big thank you to Mick for that.

Well as with all competitions there has to be a few simple rules so here they are,


The Worldofminis Concept Art competition.[/u]

We are pleased to announce the first competition to take place on Worldofminis. Hopefully this will be the prelude to many more competitions run on this site, like all competitions there are a few simple guidelines/rules for entrants to follow.


Competition Theme[/u]

The aim of the competition is to design a mini based on the forums name, the winning design will then be submitted, with the intention of having the design sculpted and then produced, this mini will then become available through the Worldofminis website.
The winner will then receive a limited version of the mini which will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the producer of the mini.

Categories[/u]

There will be three two categories,

1) Fantasy

2) Sci-fi

There is no set theme other than a design based on the title, I would like to see originality and work that doesn’t draw on already established imagery but really anything goes.
There will also be second and third places with prizes, (we kindly thank Eastern Front Studios for offering there support in this competition).

General Rules[/u]

These are quite simple, to enter the competition you must be a registered and fairly member of Worldofminis, also the work you are doing must not be displayed on any other website until after the closing date of the competition, the entries will then be posted on Worldofminis for voting again only registered and fairly active members will be able to vote and the final decisions will be made by the admin. Once the decision is made it is final and no negotiation will be entered into with a view to the result changing. The work must be the entrants own and WIP pictures should be able to be submitted if requested.
Worldofminis reserves the right to use the winning entry for use in further developments of a miniature in the future.
If there is any breach in the rules Worldofminis reserves the right to remove the offending entry from the contest and the entrant will be informed.

And Finally[/u]

The main goal of the competition is to have fun, I’m not interested in artistic ability (though I need to see what you are trying to achieve) it is ideas that are the main thing, good original ideas.
Hopefully you will take part and get a lot of fun from the contest and this will be the forerunner of many more contests to come, so come on people get your artistic heads on and submit your concepts to the Worldofminis website.

Terms and Conditions[/u]

Once submitted any models that are developed from the winning design become the property of Worldofminis and any design, modification or model put into production is therefore owned by the site. On submitting your entry you are agreeing to the competition rules and terms and conditions

Competion Dates[/u]

The competion will officially open on July 1st and close on August 31st. Voting will then begin and the voting thread will be open for two weeks after the closing date with the winners announced shortly after voting closes.
Please not that the winners prize may take a little while to be sent as once the competition ends it then has to be sculpted and a mould made and then cast. I hope that this competition has plenty of participants and is the first of many that we hope to ruun here.

Ok firstly this isn't a sculpting competition it is purely a drawing of the concept art competition, if you read the main guts of the thread you will see that it is not so much the artistic ability rather it is the idea that we need to see, though we do need to tell what is what.
So don't let the thought of drawing skill or lack of it put you off entering. The more entrants the more successful and the more likely that further competitions will be held at later dates. This one is just to start the ball rolling so to speak.

Tim, yeah you beat me to the punch I started to tell Demi that sculpting skill has nothing to do with the design contest allthough yes I wish I could sculpt myself..but aside maybe rocks im lost ..and as for drawing well a straight line is hard for me also lol..but good ideas go along way ..scribbles we can decypher..several of our minis were designed on doodle on yahoo believe it or not so again look forward to seeing the designs sounds like a good start.

I'm really excited for this. I've got a lot of ideas going through my head right now. Actually I've got enough ideas for an entire range (and even rules for a game and background story, but it's somewhat plagarized :. If only I was a talented artist/sculptor and I could start my own company... One can dream.

After some doodles i am happiest with this... but i'm worried... does it look too Rackham? To be fair the inspiration comes more from S. Bizley's Slaine... i cant show the rest because that's where the originality comes in... if it's crap just tell me, then i can move on

Thanks for the first idea and it looks good, I like the writing on the sword, remeber that when you have your finished sketch that the submission forum os the place for it. But a very promising start. Thanks for kicking it off.
