World Of Minis Painitng Competition.

I have yet to finalise the final details but here is a draft of the general idea,

The First World Of Minis Painting Competition[/u]



I am pleased to announce that World of Minis is going to be holding its first painting competition in the very near future.
There will be several categories for people to have a go at with a beginners and an expert category.

Beginners Category

I intend this for people who are relatively new to the hobby and have not yet mastered the finer techniques of mini painting ( this is not meant as an insult but more as a category for those who don't want to go up against the more experienced painters and modellers out there).

Expert

This is for everyone else who doesn't fit into the beginners category.

as ever if you are unsure then when you send me your entry ask me and i will look at your work and place it in the category that I think best suits your entry.

Ok so the categories are

1) Fantasy,

Single miniature,
Mounted Miniature,
Unit
Large Scale Monster

2) Science Fiction

Single Miniature
Mounted Miniature
Unit
Vehicle
Large Scale Monster

3) Diorama

This can be anything on any size base either fantasy or science fiction.

4) Conversions

Again either fantasy or Science Fiction but the mini must have a good level of conversion that is to say simple head, weapon or minor conversions will not be accepted. I am looking for those with the talent for sculpting and converting to really let their talents show here.


Competition Guidelines

To enter the competition you must be a registered member of the World of Minis forums and be fairly active.
Your entry must not have been shown anywhere else on the net (I browse a lot of websites and will probably find out if it has), if I find entries that have been displayed elsewhere the entry will be removed and the entrant informed (if you have any doubts on this then pm me about it).
The work must be your own and be a new work from you (I may ask to see WIP shots from time to time to check this).
There will be first second and third place prizes for the Fantasy, Science Fiction, Diorama and Conversion categories (prizes to be confirmed).

All there is left for me to say is that I hope people enjoy the contest and don’t forget the main idea is to have fun.
All entries should be e-mailed to me in jpeg or gif format and should be no bigger than 500 pixels wide. I will host them in my photobucket account and when the time is right I will then open up a thread with a poll crediting each submission with its entrants username and a brief description of the entry. Members can then vote and a winner/ winners can be decided.

I will be offering minis as prizes, I already have a donation from Sacred Blade Miniatures. Thanks Pete for that and will be contacting other suppliers to see if I can get more to offer. I hope to see alot fo people entering this and look forward to seeing all your work.

I'll hope I'll be able to have a crack at this. I'm gonna be busy over the next couple of months but I fancy entering that conversion category, hmmmmm....

I hope Tim, that we can have this painting competition a couple of times a year at least ? That would be cool and give everyone plenty of chances to get somewhere - there are after all, alot of great painters here and us lesser skilled mortals will probably need all the chances we can get!!!

Anyway, I have just entered my first painting competition over at the Lost Glade wood elf forum, there are only 4 entries but it's exciting for me none the less. Currently second place in the poll though

Those Tombstone series are really nice, but there are some other cool minis, too. I gotta get one of those Bob Dylan minis

Yeah Bob Dylan is great isn't he. I still want to get Bob and also the drumme boy large scale, I have two more packs of Tombstone to get and I know there are some more on the way. But I think in general they are just great minis, and Adam the site proprietor is a nice guy too. I can also say as well that the shipping is excellent very quick indeed.

I have made the base for my fantasy figure, not painted yet. Should I just start taking WIP shots so they are ready when I put the entry in or should I email them now or should I be more patient. ;D

Hi mate keep your Wips and your final entry for now, I am not going to officially open this for a few days yet, when the competition is opened then you can e-mail your FINAL[/u] image to me, the wips are kept by the entrant and then I can ask to see them if required. I might even open a competition WIP thread so that people can see how entrants went about their particular piece.

Great news, Tim! Quick question--is a limitation on the manufacturer of the miniature? It can be a Reaper, Wyrd, Sacred Blade whomever?

there is no limitation on manufacturer, as long as it fits in the category then it qualifies, in fact I am quite keen to see what minis are entered, also if any of you aremembers of other sites then please feel free to pimp the contest I am going to offically open it on Monday.

I am thinking to run it for a few weeks six at the most that gives me time to get the prizes shipped to me from where they are coming from and to try and sort out what to give to the various winners when they are announced.

Confirmation came through today that Dragonblood Miniatures will also be sponsoring the contest, and I also have a secret supplier for an overall winners prize for both beginner and pro cats. I am going to keep that to myself for a little while as i think that is a bit special, so the list now reads

well you can consider me in for the single fantasy mini and for the sf vehicle,i hope to have the time to enter the fantasy large moster and sf single mini as well (for the quality i can't assure nothing )

Just a quick not that the competition is now open for entries, as I mentioned before e-mail them to me, try to keep the image size to around 500 pixels at the largest, and send them as either jpeg or gif.
Once the closing date passes which is, Sunday 24th of September I will open up a thread so they can be viewed and voted on.

Tim, you mentioned in a an earlier post that you may be able to run a contest a couple of times a year. If this is possible I for one would not particularly care if there were no prizes involved if it is a struggle to organise prizes etc for more than one or tow comps (although you seem to have done just great with the sponsership on this first one!) I mean you could do one catergory mini contests where it is limited to a couple of figures from a particularly manufacturer, or even simpler like "everyone paint an orc"!!! Something simple at any rate.

I may be able to enter this one, still no news on my house I'm moving into though and I have to be out of my current home in a couple of weeks so maybe not.......

ps what is beginner class determined by. I mean I ain't great but I don't think I could get away with calling myself a beginner or could I (heheheh)...........?

Yes I have plaqns for furhter painting competitions which will involve themes and maybe using a set companies products that sort of thing but for the first one I wanted to try something speacial hence the effort to get some sponsors and to give something away as physical prizes, I may for future comps donate painted minis by me or even get trophies made that sort of thing.
I hope you can take part in this one, the beginners category is realy for those who have only just started out in the hobby if you are in anydoubts ask me when you submit your images to me and i can sort it out for you,
a quick word on pictures, I would like to see all around the entry not just the front view if at all possible.
