Just a little feedback and a few suggestions. 1. Is it possible to add the Quick Links to the bottom of the forums pages, so that we don't have to scroll all the way back to the top in order to return to the Home/Message page? 2. Some of the BBCode Tags don't seem to be active. 3. I think it would be good to have a separate forum forum for Feedback/Suggestions right here in the Website News Section. 4. An Off Topic Forum is always a good thing 5. Now that there is an Admin team and a Mod Team, perhaps you could all take a moment and look through the Forum Topic Index and revise spelling and grammer mistakes. (such as the "Memebers Gallery Feedback") 6. What is the focus of this site? Are the gaming forums necessary? I like to talk about LOTR, but it seems to me that once you start to take the focus away from the main purpose of the site (which I take to be Minis) you dilute the effectiveness of it. Just my opinion. 7. In relation to number 6, a message or "Mission Statement" about the site would help people to understand what it is all about. Nothing fancy, just a quick note outlining the goals and ideas behind it and what you hope to accomplish. That's all for now, back to work.

Ok very valid points and I will get together with the admin team and see what we can come up with. I added the gaming forums so as not to put off people that like to play as well as paint, if there is no real interest in them then I will remove them at a later date. I put the site together very quickly so there are some spelling/grammar mistakes, again the admin will sort that out over time. I was thinking of doing a small paragraph or two to say how I imagine this site, and at the rate it is expanding I think that it is time that I gave serious thought to that. Thanks for the pointers, I have made this a sticky so that anyone can add to this if they feel the need.
Tim.

Thanks for the feedback Cur, if you could clarify what BBtags are inactive then that would be great ;D about the quick links, there is a forum jump located on the bottom right hand side of the forum, this can be used for quick links about the mission statement, do you mean like "welcome to world of minis, this site is about this that and the other and we also have blah blah blah" if so then i can create one of those with ease i will have a chat with Tim about the main point of the forum, as its his site

Thanks for the feedback Cur, if you could clarify what BBtags are inactive then that would be great ;D Maybe I'm not using them correctly. The [glow=red,2,300]GLOW[/glow] doesn't seem to work, as well as the [shadow=red,left,300]DROP SHADOW[/shadow]. I think the rest seem to be fine. Once again I am baffled by some of them and simply don't know what they are supposed to do (I have the same problem on OR) so it would be great if there were a discriptive list about them somewhere as well as instructions on how to use them. Maybe ProBoards already has such a FAQ available? Ahhh, I missed that. Nice, but not quite the same. I guess I can live with it. That's pretty much what I had in mind. I'm guessing that Tim would be the best person to write it up since this is his baby, so to speak and I'm really interested to hear more about "why" he set it up and "how" he invisions it's uses. Cheers

they seem to work fine, just out of interest, what program are you using to surf the net? (mozilla firefox, internet explorer etc)

Ahhh, I was afraid you were going to ask that question. I am using Safari, which is a native program for Apple (Mac) computers. I sometimes use InternetExploiter but only to see how my work looks in another browser. I suppose that is the reason why somethings just don't seem to work. Oh well.

By the way the General Discussion Forum is kind of an off topic place but if you want I can either a) change the title or b) Open up a new forum for it. As for the direction I will have athink about it, when I first set it up a just wanted a place for people to hang out and just feel relaxed and have a good time meeting other likeminded people, I know we have sites for that already such as O-R and Cmon but they are big places now and not always easy to be a member, This realy about the enjoyment of the miniature world, and I would also say that gamng is a part of that, if we can include things that are happening in the min world all the better new minis new companies new games that sort of thing all the better. I do have hopes for the site and I am hoping that I can take it a little further in the way of painting competitions and that sort of thing. The admin/mod team has been put together to help me with the stuff that I an not good at like the coding, I am also hoping the membership will continue to grow and that maybe in the future I can turn this into a full site with galleries and possibly an on-line store but that is way off and I will have to see how the site develops. I would like articles and such for the modelling and painting section, your level of ability does not matter, anyone can post something that they might think will enhance the community. Sorry to ramble but I feel that if I put some preliminary ideas down then it is easy for me to go back and refresh my mind.

Feel free to ramble, now is the time to brainstorm and I think all of your comments are worth thinking about. I agree, it's nice to have a nice homey place to meet and chat, and I think you've got the right idea. The hardest part has been done, making the decision to do it. As the site grows, you'll find that the time and effort spent now coming up with clear ideas and goals will help in it's developement. Cheers

One idea I have along this line is that "generic" painting guides would be of great help and of interest to all. In other words, "How to paint metal" or "How I paint wood" would be a great way to make articles. I like to see the individual guides and of course I can glean ideas from them, but I think the possibilities are greater; demonstrating techniques on a variety of models. Cheers

Not sure if this goes here, but a suggestion on improving the site (unless you already have done it and I just missed it ;D): How about a feature that lists the new posts since the last visit? I have very much liked that at Nathan's Wyrd site.

I'm not sure if that has been already in discussion, but I didn't find a possibility to have the posts in a topic odered descending by posting date?

Hey Tim,
Wow, I took a few days off and when I come back the site is jumping! Lots of new members and the Chat box looks great. I've also noticed that you've added several new forums. Great work. But now for the feedback.
1. I've noticed that you have forum groups which consist of only one forum, sometimes of the same name. You might want to reconsider grouping some together and if needed, changing the name of the group title (or the forum itself) to make it easier for members to navigate.
2. The banners at the bottom which advertise links to other sites don't seem to be lined up properly (at least not on the two browsers that I checked them out on). Also, I find them distracting and unfortunately they tend to blend in with the other advertising on the site. I've gotten fairly good at ignoring the obligatory adverts. I'm not sure what to suggest other than to reconsider moving them onto a seperate page or listing, or perhaps to make them more distinctive so that they stand out. Resizing them all to a standard "button size" would also be more eye appealling.
Great work so far. I hope you're having fun! ;D

Yup Curunir fair abservations, we were trying to get a scrolling avertising banner for the site so I can host other sites, this is forward thinking for future contests, unfortunately we are having difficulty in getting it done, if there are any coders out there that would like to lend a hand then please feel free to shout up. The obligatory ads will dissappear soon as I will be making this an add free site, as for the forums yes I agree they need "tweaking" I will have a look at the layout and make some changes over the next few days.
I still liked the chatbox up the top though,

Late evenings (Central European Time) I keep getting an error message when browsing the threads, that there are too many connections and I should try later. Do you have some bandwidth limit on the server?

Yes is the simple answer to that, to get more space it is going to cost me so before I jump in and subscribe I am just seeing how well the site develops, I have the same problem sometimes. It looks like the site is going to stay fairly active so I may take the plunge and get us some more space.

Under the name of the users there is a title... Beginner, Amatuer, and so on. Is that supposed to be 'Amatuer' or should it be rather 'Amateur' ?

It should be Amateur, I'll get it changed asap. Thanks for the pointer.

LOL, well I took the weekend off from the computer, and first thing back on WOM I get slammed in the face with a new layout and colour scheme. Someone is having too much fun. 1. I don't agree with the colour scheme, I find that it is too dark and hard to read. All of the rollover action and highlighting is distracting. The box outlines have all but disappeared and makes it difficult to see where one post ends and the other begins. I really believe that simple is best, so keeping the skin and layout simple is (in my opinion) better for the success of the site. 2. I see that there are more bells and whistles being added as well. While I think these are kind of interesting and fun, they don't always help promote a "friendly" atmosphere. E.g. the little "power bars" which show how many more post you have to write until you reach the next "level". Do you believe that the quantity of post is important? Or is the goal of the site to aim for quality? 3. The shoutbox looks great now, as well as the Chat room feature. Nice touches. 4. Bandwidth seems to be becoming an issue, but I believe you have already thought of how to eliminate this problem. WOM is doing very well, and I hope that it will continue to grow and improve. Cheers

Hi Curunir, thanks for your input, Glenn has been very creative and whilst I understand your issues I quite like the look that he has come up woth, as for the indicator bars I tend to agree, I will get them removed at some stage. As always comments and feedback are always welcome. I will post a pole later and see what people think of the layout and colour scheme. If the concensus is to change it then I that is what we will do.
