Holidays are starting next week for me and I am home for two weeks. With that amount of free time I wanted to do a kind of painting blog of a small project by painting a Warmachine warcaster groep called Magnus the traitor. The idea is to keep this thread updated with (daily ?) progress pictures where you all can give feedback on. The goal is to have a decent tabletop quality, in my gaming community most wargamers dip, I do not want to dip but I want to create a decent tabletop quality that is still manageable in painting time. That way I hope I can keep me better focused and motivated and the site will have more activity going on. To get started here is a picture of all the pieces together: The box has 4 models: Magnus, a heavy warjack and two light warjacks. The models are now in the stage of being prepped (filing, polishing, pinning and puttying). I hope to show the next stage around christmas.

To get a good tabletop, in a very quick time I recommend the new Foundation paints and ink washes, very simple to do and effective. Beats dipping hands down in looks.

Bruenor,
My paints of choice at this moment are P3 from Privateer press. They cover in mostly two layers (except the problem colors like red and yellow due their transparant nature), and layer and blend very easy (easier then vallejo). Straight from pot most colors would cover in one layer but thinning paint is my second nature ;-)

Tim, I use both (P3 and Vallejo Model Color), but for the moment I use P3 exclusively. VMC was developed with the historical miniature painter in mind so the range (200+ colors) contains mostly muted colors. while P3 has some great bright colors. The main reason I switched to P3 for the moment is that they dry slower then VMC and allow me more working time for doing feathering or wetblending. It really pushed my abilities lately. Vallejo was for a long time a frustration to take that step further. Metals are a special story in P3, many people hate them, I like them but you must handle them as any other paint: thin them and apply in multiple layers. In general I find P3 great, they have great coverage except for the typical problem colors like red, but that is because of the pigment. They handle thinning well. Have a longer drying time then most other hobby paints which is an advantage for me (when I need to move on and have to wait for a layer to dry I use a hairdryer). The only thing they do not well is drybrushing because they use a liquid pigment. They have also a small set of inks which are comparable to GW's offering, only they are in eyedropper bottles and not those crapbottles of gw. I find their armor wash great to use. It is comparable to Tamiya smoke in color. It looks great on warmachine models where I go for that oily look on metals. Here is a color list: www.infohell.net/~deaddogg/P3_chit_72.pdfIf you want to try out a color try the cygnar blue triade.
