Right, lets see how this goes.
I am just after writing my first Lamenters list. Now I don't get to game offen so making lists are not my strong point. Even when I do game winning is not that important to me as I'm generally not that good at the game. The purpose of this list was to write a fluffy list that I could base my painting schedule off of and a list that will work reasonably well in game. This was never intended to be a tourement list or anything like that.
So why post a list in a WiP thread? Good question! As I've outlined above this list is going to act as a painting list also. I've gotten myself involved in a competition over at LO where you have to paint a 2000pt army in a year. The rules are simple, 200pts per month with two "get out of jail free" cards to be played. On the first of every month you post a picture of your newly painted unit and a picture of your whole army. WiP thread are allowed so what better way to get started on the project than to show the list. I have all of these models already in my collection apart from the assualt squad, but I can buy that in time.
Anyways onto the list.........
Lamenters 2000pts
Significant Divergence: Uphold Honour of the Emperor Trust Your Battle Brothers Flesh Over Steel Faithful until Death
HQ:
Epistolary: Terminator Armour Storm of Emperors Wrath Veil of Time 170
Elites
Terminator Assault Squad (x5) 3x Lightning Claws 2x Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield Furious Charge 215
Veteran Squad (x10) Power Fist (x2) Terminator Honours Storm Bolter Furious Charge 340
Troops
Space Marine Squad 1 (x10) Heavy Bolter Terminator Honours Power Fists Counter Attack + True Grit 215
Space Marine Squad 2 (x10) Heavy Bolter Terminator Honours Power Fists Counter Attack + True Grit 215
Scout Squad (Assualt) (x10) 130
Scout Squad (Fire Base) (x6) Heavy Bolter Sniper Rifle X5 108
Fast Attack
Assualt Squad (x10) Terminator Honors Power Fist 250
Heavy Support
Devastator Squad (x5) Heavy Bolter Heavy Bolter Plasma Cannon Plasma Cannon 175
Devastator Squad (x5) Missile Launcher Missile Launcher Lascannon Lascannon 185
Total.......................................2003
So is there any fatal flaws you guys can see. I know I am fairly short on the anti-tank side of things so I was thinking maybe missile launchers or lascannons in the tactical squads instead of heavy bolters. I tried to stay away from any sort of heavy equipment like tanks or dreads as I'd imagine a chapter like the Lamenters would have lost those a long time ago. So please chime in and give me your opinions, good or bad.
The first WiP shots should be up tomorrow or Monday.

I think you should remove maybe the scouts (the assault sqout squad maybe, as you already got lots of close combat troops). and add 5 more men to both of the devastator squads. If the get hit a couple of times you will have to remove your precious heavy weapons. If you have 10 men in the squads, you can remove 6 of them before you have to start removing your heavies. And personally I would have had one squad with all lascannons and one mith all missile launchers. Other than that it looks like a killer list

Thats a good idea mutant, that way I can introduce the two plasma cannons/heavy bolters into the tactical squads. Great idea on the devasator squads too.

Right here is the first WiP photo I got. The first squad I am going with is the Veteran Squad. The guys I'm using in this army are marines I gathered over the years, some of them have a couple different coats of paint on them, some of them have none. So the first job was to get a decent basecoat of Iydanden Darksun down, but painting a couple of dilute coats. When I was happy with the Darksun covage I gave them all a wash of 3:3:2; Water: Glaze Medium: Flesh Wash. I then got a basecoat down on the left hand shoulder pad of grey which I prefer to use as a basecoat for black and white checks. Enough talking to the picture....... The stuff I still have to do..... Skin Basecoat Weapons Detailing Finish of Armour Battle Damage Glowy Eyes Base So any help, tips or critisims are more than welcome.

aaah finally some pics and just not a lot of talk and armylists in this thread good start, mate. I think the yellow looks a bit flat atm though. are you planning some more highlights perhaps? looking forward to see this army finished ;D cheers, Andre

Armour is just the basecoat with the wash Andre, so don't worry highlights are still to come. And out of interest my entry to the marine paint off was the marine to the left of the sarge. Didn't get him finished though, got all wrapped up in getting the squad to the same stage.

Hiya guys! Time for my second update. To answer you question first though Jabber, I had to give the models three or four going's over to get a nice coverage with thinned Darksun. I do like the end colour though. I've been working away on these guys whenever I've had the chance to sit down and do some painting, all other projects on my desk have been moved to one side. But as you are about to see I'm quite a slow painter. One of the things I've done is decide on the symbol I shall use for the veteran's on their right shoulder pad. Technically I should use a crux terminus or some such but after a quick glance at some examples I realised that that would be quite a bit above my freehand skills. I decided to go for something that is easier and would look good. So thats how I landed upon skulls. I painted up one guy as a test run and am quite happy with how he turned out. I still think it might need some definition but as a first attempt goes I'm quite pleased. As for the other stuff I've done, I attempted the first set of highlights but I don't think they came out too well and are not that visible. I have decided to darken the yellow with another thin wash of flesh wash and then add small highlights with Iydanden Darksun, for a tabletop quality army that should be enough I feel. I've also basecoated the skin and the weapons and a couple of the details such as skulls and the like. The final piece of work has been to start the basing. I picked up the new basing kit realsed on Saturaday and made short work of getting the whole squad's basing started. I am going for something easy to do but still effective looking so rubble/rock with grass here and there should do the trick. The final and most difficult part for me is the checks on the left shoulder pads. My techniques is to draw the checks with pencil and then use thinned down black to fill them in. My brush control has let me down a little bit here but hopefully I will be able to tidy the checks up as I go back with some grey and white, with the final addition to that shoulder being the red heart and drop of blood. Once again any comments or opinions are more than welcome.

I was thinking of adding a glaze of Dark Flesh to the armour as per what skinkstink said in his WiP thread of the Librarian. This hopefully will give it a rusty appearance, I'm not sure about it though. I might try a test model tonight. Anyone any thoughts on how this might work with a yellow basecoat?

Dark Flesh certainly is a good colour for rust, not sure how it would work over yellow as that is a colour I tend to hardly ever use.

I went went the glaze anyway! Was fairly nervous doing it to be honest but I think I'm quite happy with the way it turned out. I should be able to post pictures later on tonight. I really need to highlight the armour now.
I'll see can I edit this post this evening.

Right, time for another update! I've been busily working away at these for the last couple of days and I must admit I'm feeling excited about them, for one main reason. I don't think I've ever actually painted a full squad of anything before this, and now that the marines are coming together and all I have to do are the details and tidying up I can really see progress and my first "real" squad for my Lamenters army. So what have I done since my last update? Well initially I was going to stick with the Idyaden Darksun colour and highlight up from there using a mixture of Darksun and bleached bone, so I tryed to do this and I found myself not liking the colour that much, so I then decided to go the oppsite direction. I gave each marine a wash with dilute flesh wash and then a glaze of vallejo Dark Fleshtone. Those washes created a much darker yellow, nearly a brown infact so then I went back and highlighted with pure Darksun. This gave me a much nicer "mustard" colour which I was quite pleased with. I then went and painted the edges of the bases with black and it is amazing how much this draws the squad together. Finally I put down the basecoat for the freehand veteran skulls and hearts on their respective shoulder pads for each marine. So here's the group picture, I was experimenting with using natural light from my window, but its quite overcast today so maybe there was not enough light. Right a list of things I want to get done before the first of November. 1. Highlight the red of the weapons 2. Finish all metals 3. Highlight and finish all the skin 4. Highlight and finish the bases 5. All other details 6. Armour battle damage 7. Green OSL from the helmet eyes It seems like a lot when I list it like that but a lot of that list can get down quite quickly. I am confident I can get this first squad in on time and that is just over 300pts done in the first month! So any comments, critisims, tips, advice just let me know.

Looks like I haven't updated this project in a while! I have that veteran squad done, so during the month of November I was working on a scout squad. All painted up to my tabletop standard! For the month of December its my leader!

Well I'm going to have to try and update this thread more often. So to that end here's what I've done this evening, repaired the staff, undercoated the model and basecoated the largest blocks. So the next two steps will be to highlight both these area's. Looking at the staff it seems that it looks not straight, the stupid thing has completely snapped and to get it straight might be next to impossible. Anyways here is the picture C&C more than welcome.
