Dunno if I can post this here, but here goes. If it's in the wrong place, please remove it.
'A blog, a blog, my kingdom for a blog!'
About me:
I've finished a couple of armies in the 3 years (almost) I've been playing Warhammer. The first complete army I ever painted, were Lizardmen. I didn't really care wether or not they were well painted, just as long as I didn't have to use grey models on the battlefield. The result was a blue army, mixed with units I painted in white. The latter ones did look a bit better and were sold about six months ago to a happy buyer. I finished the Lizardmen 16 months ago. After that, I painted more armies (2 40K armies and a couple of Warhammer armies, all of which looked as crappy as the Lizardmen and that are now sold)
At the beginning of the summer holidays last year, I decided to focus a bit more on my painting and painted some single models, entered a few competitions, some a bit more succesful than the other.
Meanwhile I painted 2 comission armies for some friends, but have been stuck with no army of my own for some time now.
That's when I purchased the WE Batallion box.
Wood Elves
When I first looked at the GW-website, my attention was immediately drawn to the nice WE models. (In particular the Wardancers, Waywatchers and Treeman) But when I entered the shop, I was informed that the WE were no longer in production anbd that I should start another army. (see above for more info on that) But as we all know, they finally released the new WE and it was well worth the (long) wait.
Colour scheme
After having bought the Batallion box, it sat on my desk for quite a while, due to not finding a nice colourscheme. (Didn't want the over used green WE.That was untill I got another one from the local shopkeeper as part of a challenge. (thread can be found somewhere on this forum) A day later, I saw Emrys's WE and immediately fell in love with the colour scheme on his WE. Colours that appealed to me greatly and fit in with my style of painting. The choice was simple for an Autumn themed army after that.
Army list: 2500 points
I chose for a 2500 point force to begin with, so that i would have some room for variation in my army. I normally play 2K point battles, so 500 points extra should do the trick.
There are a couple of units whose models I really like in the WE range.
Foremost amongst those are the Wardancers. So in go 28 of the 'lil buggers. (Who cares if people say they're cheesy) Waywatchers are also amongst my favorites. 2 small units should do the trick.
Two units of Glade Guard were added, each of them 10 men strong. I reckon that per 1000 points, you should at least have one unit of ten Glade Guard. Hence, 2 for 2K.
This was followed up by a small unit of Glade Riders. Handy for taking out enemy mages.
Eternal Guard form a nice defence for my mage and have some kickass models, so a unit of 19 was added, along with one of the flying female mages (the one with the staff). The rest was filled up with units that provide a little backbone for the army.
This is the final 2K list:
Characters
Nymeria, Wardancer Highborn: Amarantine Brooch, Blades of Loec and Annoyance of Netlings.
Being my army general, I gave her some protection, but i also gave her the means to beat the crap out of her opponents. Challenge? Anyone?
Nymerion, Waywatcher Noble: Glamourweave
Since this guy isn't going to see much combat, I gave him Glamourweave, which gives him a 4+ Ward against magic and shooting. It also offers some measure of protection in CC.
Iliryan, Spellsinger: 2*Dispell Scroll
Basic scroll caddy
Core Units
10 Glade Guard: Musician
10 Glade Guard: Musician
Basic units, which provides some shooting. Musicians to rally from fleeing.
5 Glade Riders: Musician
Used to take out enemy mages and warmachines. Again a musician to improve the chance of rallying.
19 Eternal guard: Full Command
A bodyguard for my mage and protection against enemy units trying to kill my Glade Guard
Special Units
9 Wardancers: Musician and Champion
9 Wardancers: Musician and Champion
9 Wardancers: Musician and Champion
Needs no explanation really. An escort for my General and a means to beat the crap out of the enemy.
3 Treekin
Some hitting power and a missile screen for my Wardancers. These guys can take some damamge.
Rare units
5 Waywatchers
5 Waywatchers
Character hunting and picking of small units. Maybe killing blow some knights.
Treeman
Same principle as the Treekin
Anyway, that's it for today. I'll post some pictures tomorrow from my WIP Glade Guard. Hopefully this blog is going to help me stay motivated whilst painting them.
[/rant]
Anyway, you don't have to read all of that.
These are some pics from what I have so far. (I'm a reaaally slow painter.)
I've finished about 6 of these, but they all look the same, so I'm going to wait untill I finish the uni before I take more pics of them.
Some bad pics of my Spellsinger. I like the model, but it's not the one I want for my army. Still, I might put him on Fleabay. Maybe someone will even be crazy enough to buy him. He was hell to paint though.
That's what I have so far. (Besides 12 Dryads who have been painted in 1 day and aren't worth showing.)
I'll try to update this regularly, but I paint very slow and have lots of other minis that need painting, so it might take some time before this gets updated.
Comments would be appreciated.
Cheers, Wolf Fang
