hello all. I have long wanted to collect an Isengard army. I got some Uruk scouts in Christmas gift from my BIL(brother in Law) and sister. I thought this was the right time to start up an Army of the White Hand so i have also orders the Evil of isengard box. (next box will be the Legion of the withe hand). oh well, now to the point! Since the wars of Saruman was set in Rohan I would like the bases look "Rohanish". Do you have any suggestions on how to base them? and in which season did The White Wizard attack rohan? in the Sprin or winter? I dont remember. Thanks a lot for taking your time and read this boring text, Razh

Rohan was a pretty plain country of rolling grasslands so the theme for basing is going to be grass Iwould think with a few rocks here and there to break the monotony up as Gimli said "with no sign of our quarry but what bare rock can tell" so there would be rocky outcrops, as for the season I don't remember but I can look it up. It wouldn't make alot of difference to the basing anyhow as grass doesn't akter that much with the change of season.

I have just seen some clips from Rohan in TTT. The grass is very yellow/brownish, and that may be in the autumn when the grass is dying, or in the summer when the heat is killing the grass, or just the normal colour of the grass. Here are some grass types I found on the Woodland Scenics site. Woodland Scenics make scenery for model trains, but work well with minis. You can get Woodlans Scenics stuff from pretty much every model train store. Woodland Scenics field grass: Woodland Scenics "burnt grass": There are lots of rocks everywhere, both big and small. The rocks are very rough, and are grey with a little brown. I'm thinking rough grey rocks with a brown wash could look cool. Hope this helps. - Mikkel

Here is Aragorn painted a couple of years ago for a friend. I tried to base him similar to the scene where he and the fellowship were escorting the peasants to Helm's Deep and the warg riding orcs attacked. The rock was a simple piece of cork painted with grays and washed with brown. The ground was a fine ballast painted with brown. In retrospect, I would have added some brown grass.

Thanks, Razh Eep...trying to remember the recipe...that was a long time ago...if I was using mostly VMC at the time, so I think it was Flat Earth as a base, then washed with straight black, highlighted with a 1:1 mix of Flat earth and VGC Bleached Bone, followed by a very light drybrush of Bleached Bone. I think...
