Hi.
I'm building a Uruk-hai army, and of course I will have some bows. I think it would be cool to add bow strings and arrows to the bows, because the GW bows don't look that realistic.
What do I use for strings, and how can I make the arrows?
I've heard that you can use just a thin string, or a thin fishing line, can anyone confirm this?
I'm thinking of using a very thin metal wire (brass or tin maybe), and I've found some that is as thin as 0,3 mm (though all the way up to 3 mm). Do you think it's possible to use this? I think that a thin metal wire will be more durable than just a string.
Cheers
Mikkel

I can give you an example my Legolas from the fellowship has his bow strung with a piece of my wife's hair, I have also used fuse wire the very thinnest that comes on a card of different ratings. Here is a pic of Leogland from the FotR I am sure there are other ways but these the hair worked for me.

Lol! Hair! ;D
I suppose it looks good though, an... interesting approach to this Tim.
I suppose if you wanted to cheat a bit when showing them on the internet, just go into something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop and just use the line tool!

Take some left-over sprue with both hands, heat the middle over a flame, draw your hands apart et voila : bow string. For arrows: same principle, but slower. Take some green stuff, set a blob on one of the aforementioned 'arrows', pinch the blob three times 120 degrees apart with pliers, hemostat or pincette(tweezers). The relief inside the branches of your tool will leave a feather-like imprint on the green stuff.Let dry,cut to size. Hope it helps.

I experimented with my method (see above) and it doesn't look very effective. It is fairly obvious that it has been artificially done, so don't bother trying it!

Ahh--what a fortuitous question...
I have been (slowly) working on a tutorial on this very topic! I'll see if I can get a move on and finish it up...
