Hi.
I'm building a Isengard army, and I'm curremtly modelling my warg riders. The only problem is that I don't know how to arm them.
I haven't officially played LOTR before, so I don't really know many rules, and I don't know the best way to arm them.
I don't think I will arm them with bows, so I'm thinking of removing the bows and adding swords and shields instead.
There's 6 warg riders, so I'm thinking 3 with swords and 3 with throwing spears, does that sound reasonable?
I'll appreciate any tip/suggestion.

Well this is a picture of the GW ones: And personally I don't remember the Warg Riders having swords and shields but, it would make it interesting I guess to have your own personal ones. There's nothing saying they can't have them, in fact, some might have, as the riders themselves are only orcs, so yes, I do like the idea of that! ;D

The ones on your pictures are the metal warg riders, but I'm using the new plastic multipart warg riders.
The plastic ones are equipped with swords/shields, bows and throwing spears.

Warg Riders can be armed with Sword, Shield, Orc Bow, Throwing Spear or Banner. Each item costs additional points... if you use a bow a shield cannot be used to increase the defence. You can have sword and shield, giving you +1 defence but my choice weapon would be the spear, you have ranged attack and can reach past one figure in close combat, so you could have an extra attack possibility if you trap an opponent. Dont rule out bow, you could have bow + sword, gives you fast ranged attack that can still be useful in combat, although an extra cost... i think whatever you choose will have it's advantages and disadvantages but if your fighting high elves you'll be slaughtered by bow before you reach the line!

I find the easiest way to avoid arrows is to use a diversion, but anyone could have thought of that. What I do is get a couple of orc captains on wargs but split them up from the rest of the wargs. With any luck it should take them a while to take them down. Well... it works for me. BTW is it pronounced worg?

Thanks guys.
@ menace: I'll consider taking the shield/bow/sword combination. And yes, they will probably be shot down by high elves ;D
@ mattofmirkwood: Sounds like a good tactic, I might give it a try.
Cheers

I have an idea...... I'm thinking arming my riders with both swords and spears (yeah, I know I can't do that). If a orc rider is armed with a sword, he has a spear slung on his back, and if he's armed with a spear, he have his sword in a tabard. In this way I can choose what weapon I want to use. ( The orc with spear, will mostly be used with spear, but this is just a backup plan or something ) What do you think of this idea? Cheers

In pure gaming terms you have wasted a point on the figure, the spear can do everything the sword can do, save the point for your defence

@menace: I wasn't meaning to field both sword and spear, but choose between sword and spear before the game.
I have seven riders (one metal and six plastic). So I'll have four with spears and three with swords/shield. I'm thinking of also having a warg rider captain, maybe Sharku.

That's a formidable choice but my archers are still going to wipe you out! ;D

@menace: Yeah, you will probably wipe me out, but I hope I will overrun you with larger numbers (well, I don't know any LOTR tactics). To me, it's most important to have fun, and have a nice looking army, not neccesearly to win, but it's fun to win too ;D
Jo vi kan selvfølgelig snakke på norsk, men da skjønner jo ingen av de andre hva vi snakker om ;D
