Soon I will start a Dark Angels army. I love Dark Angels and I have been waiting for the new codex for quite a while. The Dark Angels is my only 40k army, and I made it over two years ago. My painting skills is much better now, and I think I'll start a new army now that the new codex is out. I will make a 400 points list at first, because I love combat patrol and 400 points worth of models will not take too long to paint. With the new rules you can split up 10 man squads into smaller 5 man squads, and I will use this on the devastator squad to get better flexibility and cover more gorund. Here's the army list I have come up with so far, what do you think?
Tactical Squad - 5 marines - Power sword - Melta gun - Razorback transport
Devastator squad (split up into two combat squads) Devastator combat Squad 1 - 5 marines - 2 heavy bolters Devastator combat squad 2: - 5 marines - 2 missile lauchers

Do you not need a HQ unit? I remember having to have a HQ unit and 2 troop units for the squad to be playable.
Plus all those dev squads will hinder movement, as they can't move and shoot in the same turn (IIRC) I would only take 5 and take 5 Veteran marines instead.
(Very vague knowledge of the rules BTW, my brother has been playing the new codex, and although i don't play, iv been helping him with his list)

No I do not need a HQ choice. This is combat patrol, and you only need one troop choice, and the rest is up to you (except some rules about venicle armour value etc).
No, the devastators will not be able to move and shoot, but they don't have to move. I will place the the devastator combat squads on either sides of the gaming board on someplace high. This way I can just stand and shoot the enemy, and as I have two squads on either sides there's few places the enemy can hide. And the tactical squad can move as close to the enemy as possible and the tactical squad can get into close comabat.
