I have recently developed a love for SCI FI minis....
The TAU seem to fit everything I love about those types of minis, as do the Tyranids....trouble is I can't decide which I like more.
Anyone paint either of those two and have pointers or suggestions on which ones I should go for?

I like the Tau but I started to paint some and found them to be very boring to do and quickly lost interest. I have seen some Tyrannids that were done using the dipping method wich is quick and does look very effective. I'll see if I can find the link to the discussion on it.

i dont know anything about the gaming.. but painting..hmm.. i like tau more..but if i was going to buy some tyranids i would buy Forge World stuff ;D

I have decided to go for both. You only live once, and you can never have enough unpainted miniatures....LOL

tyranids are a dream for people who like painting. i just spray black, basecoat codex gray, blue ink, codex gray highlights, fortress gray highlights, skull white highlights, shadow gray shades, black inked flesh, liche purple areas, warlock purp highlights. simple, effective, and fun  |

I have both the new Hive Tyrant and Carnifex models to paint i realy must get those done, I also bought the Forgeworld Malathrope (spelling?) which is a great modle again I must paint it.

I like these two races as well. I have not painted either, however. The conversion possibilities of the Tyranids is what I have enjoyed seeing the most, though. Have you seen the Buglands website?

I personally love the tau. I havent painted any, but I do love them. I'm a big anime lover, and the tau seem to be pretty influenced by anime/manga. I think they look great when they are painted with that in mind. Heck, they look great no matter how they are painted. I love them. Tyranids don't do much for me. I do like the models but alot of the paint schemes I see just don't do anything for me. That's my two cents.
You can always buy some of each (a blister of pathfinders and a broodlord or something) and see which ones you like more.

Fluffwise, I like Tau most. The models are cool enough, and I think they're pretty good gamingwise.
Modelwise, i like Tyranids more. I have only painted a few, but from what i can see from the sculpts, they look pretty fun to paint.

It depends what mood I'm in really. If I'm in a good mood i'd say Tau and if in a bad mood tyranids. This has to be one of those Tau days.  |

To put it another way: Tau are for the more strategic players and tyranids are more for the sort of people who like their army to charge in and kill everything in sight.

Well having played Tau myself and painted then i lot, I must admit i love the anime looks of the models, painting clean using no gore etc can get boring ill tell u but with the kroot you can get your need for painting blood and gore out. Tyranids never painted one but are very cool looking models aswell, maybe just both ?  tau are great to play too, the are bad at close combat but ranged they shoot down everything, just keep shooting and keep moving flanking deepstriking, great fun to play them |

Well...I have bought some Tyranids (on my first visit ever to a official GW store). I got the Carnifex and the Hive Tyrant.
Doesn't mean the Tau are off limits yet, but I do need to get these Tyranids painted first.....
Oh god, that last comment of mine is so funny I almost peed myself.....
The Tyranids go in the 'to be painted' pile...I'll buy Tau's soon enough!

I have the Hive Tyrant and still want the fex, haven't touched the guy yet though as there seems to be alot of filling of gaps to do and I find that very tedious. I may get around to it one day but then again ..............
