This is my newest piece of work, he's been complete now for about a week but the base was finished off today. That I'm actually rather pleased with, it is my first play about with milliput and so it turned out alright I feel. Perhaps could have been a little bit bigger but I'm happy with the result and the look of it too. I have always loved this mini, so when I actually visited a GW a week or two ago I just had to pick him up and after a little bit of copying/inspiration off of a few versions I saw on CMON I came up with this. For me the favourite part to paint was in fact his face, I don't know why but I thoroughly enjoyed painting it. The freehand is my attempt, I've probably done half a dozen pieces of freehand and I think I'm getting better and better, this could have been done a bit better but the results work I think. KU

Very nice mate, I particulary like the design on his overcoat, nice a simple but very effective. Hate it when freehand gets overdone, and you've done it nicely. Good colours all over, can't fault it at all!!! Great Stuff!!

Wonderful sculpt, wonderful paintjob. I like the face and the freehand, but the overall impression of the mini is good. I'm not so sure about the yellow parts though. Yellow is a hard colour to get right, and I never use yellow. The red areas could use some more highlights. The base is great too btw. Once again, great mini.

Excellent job on this one. I agree the face is the standout point on this one. Nice smooth lines on the greatcoat. I would agree with MP that the reds and yellows could use a bit more highlighting.

Thanks for the comments, appreciated. Mutantpotatoe and Jabberwokky - I see you points and they are very valid, the yellow and red do look a little flat and unhighlighted. The red I have a good excuse and that I prefer subtle highlights and they are there just washed down with glazes of red and so the photos might not have picked up on them well. The yellow, well the main problem here was the tassles on the shoulders. The sculpts make them hard enough to highlight and there are highlights but they all seem to blend into one solid colour unfortunately. Thanks though. KU

the photos might not have picked up on them well Photographing is difficult (at least I think). All the minis I have displayed online (only two actually) is better in real life than it is on image. Many details will be left out and the image doesn't really show the real beauty of the mini. Btw, your painting style really reminds me of my own. Except that I can't paint faces and freehand ;D

Photography is the bane of minipainters I've tried a lot of lighting and always go back to daylight on a cloudy day It suits the tones of my minis rather than the harsh artificial daylight that drowns details or the reflective halogen light that picks out flaws that don't even exist!! Great mini, i'll be putting this guy on my to do list

This is a great piece, the only thing that lets it down for me is the lack of depth in the frehhand (which is great btw). If you shade and highlight that it will be outstanding.

Thanks, yeah I'm getting better with my photo taking; I use two daylight lamps. One overhead and one facing straight forward. Then just edit in photoshop, usually works.
Tim - Yeah, I was gonna but it didn't turn out that well. Next time.
