I picked up this unit last week as I really like the models. GW's plastic mini's have improved in leaps an bounds in terms of detail over the last couple of months and these guys really show that. I also picked up the foundation paint set at the same time, so this pic is a very early WiP with the main colour scheme blocked out with orkhide green and machite red. I was using the foundation paints watered down around two to one and they were going on beautifully. I really am impressed. The only little gripe I had was that the green separated a little and when mixed went on a whole lot lighter. As can be seen on the caps. Looking forward to getting these guys done and having a go at a little freehand on the banner.

This thread promises to be interesting, especially because of the use of the new foundation paints. Do you find that they are thick to use? Any chance at a closer shot of your WIP?
Really great start, can't wait to see what you do with these.

Looking forward to seeing your progress mate. I'd also like to see how those foundation paints work. Are they similar to P3? Cheers, Wolf Fang

I've not used P3 paints wolffang, but from what I've read about them I'd say they are roughly similar. Both seem to have really high pigment ratio's. Mousekiller, I initially tried them straight out of the pot on a test mini and I found they were too think for my liking. I'm now diluting them down two drops of water to 1 brush of paint (sorry about the house rules mixing guide) and they still have great coverage and go on beautifully. I usually use 1 drop water to 1 drop VGC paints if that helps you out.
I'll post some close up's of the champion when I get some more done.

I look forwards to seeing the troops in a better color scheme than GW, that white and red makes details impossible to see!

Yea Kaine I'm painting them in a little known out of the way colour scheme. Its the scheme of Hochland. Home of the (old) world famous Hochland hunting rifle. The state is mainly covered with trees, they have a problem or two with beastmen and they are sort of backward compared to the other states. But I like to paint things that are a little way away from the norm. The scheme is dark red-dark green halves. Hopefully I can do it justice.
Should have more done by the end of this weekend.

So just a quick update guys. I have more or less the basecoat down on the green side of these guys now. So I must go and add highlights to these guys and get started on the red side of the uniform. As usual C&C are more than appreciated...

Looking good so far mate. I do think the green is a bit to bright, but that's just personal taste. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Wolf

Looking good so far mate. I do think the green is a bit to bright, but that's just personal taste. Really? It looks quite dark on my screen, I'd guess snot green over DA green? Maybe its just my computer. Anyway I look forwards to seeing how it progresses.

It's actually VGC snot green over GWFP orkhide green and then a couple of glazes of VGC Dark green.
