I've had to drop all my wip's in favour of this ranger as i've so much going on i'll never get one finished in time for the local competition we have here in Norway So here's an update, the photo's aren't that good as it's poor light and i was lazy (no tripod), but i hope it will give a good enough idea for some crits. The cloak is as yet just primer, i'm working on it today, backpack and rifle still to come, if any of you guys know of how a ranger rifle should look i'd appreciate the heads up, alot of them seem to be bone colour Less chat!

i'm not to keen on the blue head ( but thats just personal preference i think ) and maybe the inner robes could have some freehand work on them, apart from that it looks really nice so far! ;D

Cheers guys!
@ Rogue.... i considered freehand but decided i would limit it ti the two shoulders of the coat and keep, one eldar rune and the altoic symbol on the other, the idea is not to have him too ornate as a ranger, the jewellry is maybe enough! The blue head's inspired by my old favourite 'Rogue Trooper' from 2000ad.....
@ faust, cheers mate, it's a massive compliment when someone mistakes my metals for nmm!

I really like where this is going, I think it looks like it could be your best work when it's finished. I like the choice of colours, especially the combination of the brown/beige cloth. The painting is very smooth and crisp, I really like it. I don't like the blue head, but that's just a matter of taste ;D

This is actually discouraging me from finishing my version of this model. Nah, just kidding. Bloody awesome work on the Ranger. I like everything, except the blue head. Somehow it reminds me of those blue guys from the Daft Punk music videos. Cheers, Wolf Fang

I am inspired!!! Inspired to try and best that. Anyway, I might be nitpicking here, but I thought I should mention that I don't think the gems are as good as you're probably capable of doing. Somehow, they don't seem deep enough to me. Might be a personal preference though. Cheers, Wolf Fang Edit: How about something like this Termie's armour for the rifle?

Wow , fantastic Mini, love it, i would have to agree with others on the red gem it could use with some more highlights, but other besides that i think the blue is very unique , cant wait for the finished mini, would love to add it to my collection of pictures that inspire me.
Also i think the black cloak looks great the way it is, maybe if you finish with the black it gives it a good contrast in colours, maybe just some free hand at the back or bottom of the cloak. IMO
Great Job! AW

Really excellent, I think the blue head is great!
Is that the regular ranger or a FW one? It looks too fine and delicate to be GW, though if it is a GW one all the better (and you won't have to sell your kids to afford it)

Stellar as usual, Dennis. I like the blue head, personally. The weathering on the boots and robe is excellent. Other than the gem on the belt, I can't find anything to critique. I tried. Hard.

Thanx Sean, if that's all you can find it's going well! I think the biggest problem with the gem is that it is gloss varnished for the IRL effect and that i tried to make it orange, therefore it is seen as not deep enough etc.... taking all the crits into consideration i have changed it to a deep red and dullcoted it, hopefully this will appease the judges! It is the only flaw in an immaculate sculpt, the gem is awkward in its shape, not a perfect sphere to paint and after 2 nights of trying to counteract the fact with paint i have come to a point where it WILL have to do, or i'll become an insomniac!

Update, not much left on the ranger to do, there is a back pack and rifle to go and some small details. I have added a little subtle freehand work, one symbol is the eldar rune the other the alatoic symbol for the ranger. The cloak is coloured as the base, this idea is taken from the GW fluff on rangers, apparently their cloaks change colour to camoflage them. I took some of the previous crits on and changed the gems, but he's stayin' blue! Comments appreciated, especially crits

Bloody amazing work mate. I just wish mine looked as good. I think the head looks better now that the cloak's painted. Doesn't pop out that much anymore. Cheers, Wolf

Stupendous. The gem is much better and the freehand is perfect. It is probably just a trick of the photo, but in the last photo is the dark spot on the lower 1/3 of the cloak and the two on the right hand side of the collar intended? As always, feel free to ignore me--it is all I can come up with to critique (if you can even call it that--more like picking a fight Jabber, master of the incredibly miniscule nitpick....

It is indeed a sculpt issue, there are several small dents and one 'nick' in the cloak that perhaps i should have redone with greenstuff, but as in real life they are practically not visible i won't bother! So you can pick a fight all you like Sean but i'm a black belt at running away..... catch me
