Be'Lakor

This miniature has been sat in my cupboard for ages, I decided to paint him up but to do it differently than the box. Seeing an opportunity due to a friendly contest on a forum I decided to attempt to paint him using only four colours - Black, White; Chainmail and Regal Blue.

Making this miniature was a pain, practically everything but the head required pinning and I even had to bend the legs slightly to give him a better standing position. Then of course the gap filling, I lack the ability to make nice smooth joins but I did my best as I could. It's not all that noticeable unless you look close enough and know where to look. These are the first few photos of him;








This is going to be my base. Make out of milliput, however I'm not sure just how well it will look. I think it needs a lot of work, I was thinking of scratching runes into it. The marks over it were made by pushing bark into the putty.



This is him after some work, mainly the flesh done. Various layers have been added starting with a dark blue mix and adding more Regal Blue into the mix then adding white to lighten it for the highlights.



This is his current look, I'm not sure what else can be done. I'm quite satisfied but I'm sure something could be improved. The pictures are not amazing, but then the mini is rather dark - dark colours suit the idea of Be'Lakor. The metals are silver then washed/glazed with a blue then a black/blue wash.

I really like the colors you have chosen, KU. He looks dark at the moment, but once you add some lighter contrast with the skulls and horns I think it will lighten up some. Are you going to do a different color on the chest symbol?

I can't really. The contest stipulates that you can only use black, white, silver and a single pot of coloured paint. Everything else must be done by mixing. Actually quite difficult, more than it seems.

He needs work, though everyone seems to have ripped him apart that I'm feeling quite disenchanted by the whole thing.

I could add more colour but I feel I'd benefit more if it was left as it is, to take as a learning experience. And yes, it's really not as easy as you'd think.

Ahh--I see. I didn't read your previous post closely enough, sorry about that. One way to go is to make him largely grayscale with blue accents here and there. Quite a pain in the rear to do the whole thing in shades of gray--kind of a Sin City look.

Lovely work Adam, I too have this mini and intend to try and painti it up in something a little different when I eventually get around to it.
I like your choice of colour and the way you have made a limited pallette work realy well.

I forgot to update this.. but he is finished, though the pictures are a bit out of focus. Might try for better ones soon but here..

I decided to enter, can't say I'm entirely happy but best I can do and it was just really beginning to annoy me. This limiting malarkey is more difficult that thought it would be, that and I might not have chosen the best mini for it.. but I like the mini and wanted to paint it. Will have to get another after this and try a different way.. Anyway;

Thanks guys. Yeah, I am liking him much better than I did. I actually upp'ed the highlights somewhat, they were much too subtle to be seen properly and I make the skulls whiter. They're not completely white but they do look better.

I'll try and get some better pictures soon, need to work on getting good photos.

Have heart KU, i had a look and i don't think the other competitors are that much, if even, better than your entry. I think you've done a grand job under the circumstances and you've inspired me to buy this mini and have a go myself!!

4 paints? Wow, that looks amazing to say you only used 4 paints! Perhaps we should have a Monochrome comp on WoM...
