This is my entry for the WOM painting competition "paint an orc". It's an old GW Goblin Shaman. It think the sculpt is awesome, and better than the new gobbos. The mini is mounted on a dragonforge base that I got from Tim as a price from the previous painting competition. I had actually not intended to enter the competition. But when I got the resin bases from Tim I tried all of them with the minis in my bitz box and one of the bases fitted the gobbo shaman perfectly. This is the first time I have decided to paint a mini because of how well it fits the base ;D Btw, the two green dots at the front of the base is green stuff. There was two small holes (bubbles fron the resin cast) that I had to fill with green stuff. Front view: Another front view: Right view: Left view: Back view:

I can't quite see anything on the mini, it's either the photo or it's too early in the morning... Anyway, I'll be watching this mate, so maybe some of your awesome painting skills can help me see this mini better!

Wow, I have never heard that before, but thanks alot ;D I had to use flash when i took the photo, so the metal is quite light and it does not have any shadows. It's kind of hard to see the texture of the sculpt.

As you said, the base suits perfectly, giving the shaman a bit of status but not over the top.. good choice.

This is a little update. I have started on the skin. I need some washing and highlighting to blend the colours more together. I would appreciate some advice and constructive critisism.

The chin looks a bit messy, sorry.. i would widen out the midtone chin area and reduce the shadow under the lip. i dont think you need to go darker with the washes until you work up the highlights a few levels and then evaluate the contrast.. good luck.. good colour choice so far

The cheek looks a bit strange atm because it is supposed to be a blister on the spot that is not highlighted. I didn't bother highlight the spot because it's supposed to be red, and highlighting it would be a waste of time. The lips are supposed to be red or purple (haven't decided yet), so there will be a red area around them too.
I will do some dark green washes, and then re-highlight some of the spots with a little darker colour.

Looks good to me, I see your point about the zit but I would still have the chin colour matching and then do the spot after, but for an early WIP this is looking very good.

Both purple and red will give you an excellent contrast, it will be a matter of taste. If you really want a mini that stands out like a pantomime witch go for the red (and a bloody one at that!) or if you want to keep it 'real' (*huffs at the irony*) go for purple (with a red highlight )

Thanks for the tips Dennis, I'll remeber that.
But how should I paint the blisters? I tried to paint blisters on my Lord of Nurgle, but IMO I failed.

Here's a update, haven't worked on this fella since before christmas. I have tried acrylic glazing liquid by Golden (thanks for the tip Dennis), and tried some glazes at the skin. I think the transitions have become a little smoother. I am so tired of painting green skin right now, and I will do just a few more glazes and highlights and move on. When everything else have been painted it's easier to see the overall impression. I might do some more work on the skin when I have painted some of the other parts first. After the skin I will paint the blisters (I'm thinking some reds with some purple washes/glazes), eyes (maybe red), and then move on to the cloth (brown). The pic is a little blurry and not very good. My camera just died today, so I had to take the pics with my sisters mobile phone.
