It is looking great so far the corroded metals realy work, I think though that where the paint has come off and the corrosion effect is showing a little more shadow swing between the two areas would realy enhance it, but so far excelent.

Thanks Tim, i'm going to finish him off as he is and then take my time over the next few months improving details. I will try out your suggestion and maybe highlight some of the edges a bit more too

He's looking fantastic. I like the rusty metals, and the chipped armour is amazing. Can you please make a article for how you painted the rust and the chipped armour, I really want to learn how to paint like that ;D Can't wait to see it in real life.
Cheers

It wasn't so difficult to achieve as rust is fairly random in tones, i just used scorched brown and lightened with skull white for the lighter areas, then i added a bit of blazing orange and dabbed little bits here and there. A very fine drybrush of boltgun metal on some but not all edges and a final, very very dilute wash of scorched brown! I will do a tute when i'm painting his weapon and maybe find something to show how i did the chipped paint too

Excellent, I've been looking forward to seeing this for a while and it's really good menace. Whilst it's hard to offer a critique when I'm not at your standard yet, I would go with what Tim said and dirty up the corrosion effect a little more. I would also like to see a little more of the boltgun metal coming through the green, but thats my preference rather than a critisism! I can't wait to see it fully completed. Don't go spilling any paint on it, lol.

Thanks for all the comments and support.. it has paid off, i was a little worried a darkline would turn out cartoony but it looks great, i also tried a little more boltgun highlights, kept some of them and glazed back some... i'm afraid of overkill... i had thought to have more rust staining on the armour, as with the legs but i think it will reduce the contrast to much and make it hard to differentiate between the paint and the rust... the drop shadow has helped this and i don't want to ruin it I post some more pics when i stick his head on... i also brought up the 'non-corroded' metals with a little gloss and deepened the shading on the nurgling.. he looked great irl but was crap onscreen. Thanks again oh...and i dullcoted him just incase some nurgle sprite blobs paint over the place! ;)cheers dfb

Outstanding, Menace! I really like the look of him. The rust looks quite good to me and I think a bit of the boltgun will really add to it. There is not much to critique, but I did see a few things which are really quite miniscule, but since this is a competition piece...
The skulls on the right shoulder pad look a bit flat to me--either that or a bit too clean. The yellow wires on the right part of the suit appear flat as well. The transitioning from brown to white needs some smoothing on the horns.
Keep up the great work--and I am very much looking forward to an article on the chipped paint.

Thanks for the observations J, so here's the update! I've brought up the skulls with a little skull white and the yellow piping... and done all the other wee bits as said. I noticed on the helm one of the growth things has a blocked pore so i'm gonna fix that now, but i think we're starting to get somewhere. It's a great thing these WIP's , maybe i'll have to enter him as a collaborative effort ps Rusty tute booked for the weekend Since i posted i decided to redden the growths on his helm, gave the nurgling another highlight and gave his eyes a red glaze, the white was too white i think... puh, big nasty scythe thingy next

Well , looking very good so far , i really love the base (how did u do that?).But I think u schould repaint the Horns of Typhus and the Nurgling to achieve a darker more nurgle look i think ,try a mix with snakebite leather and black ,then highlights up to pure snakebiteleather, then up tobleached bone ( + white at last).Thats the way i would paint the horns ,mybe u like it ! cya and good luck !

The head looks great! The rusted metal horn is spot on.
Great adjustments to my critiques earlier...now for some more little suggestions ;D
Perhaps just the tiniest bit of highlighting on the guts hanging out the belly. I feel the skulls need some shading or perhaps just a little dirtied up. They look too clean to me.
The next two are more just suggestions--I am not sure if they would be of any benefit or if you have already noticed it and just made the decision to paint them as you have. How about a few spots of intestinal splatter around the belly opening? The intestines (especially if they were hanging out I would think) would throw off a little bit of blood that would land on the armor. Nothing too major, just a few little flecks. The other thing I noticed was the bolt on the left front and back shoulderpad as well as the one on the front waistline did not have as much corrosion as the others. Certainly some asymmetry is expected, but those 3 look nearly untouched.
I hope you don't mind all these niggling suggestions. You paint SO much better than I and honestly, I feel a little strange nitpicking such an awesome work.

It's great to have 'nitpicking' J! I value all ideas, maybe not agree but still it helps me improve my own judgement, cheers mate and keep it coming The horns i'm not so sure about changing Dalerion but thanks for the pointer??? i may dull them down but he needs a little nuance or two to get people looking... the skulls are a problem, i thought Nurgle had 3 green skulls so the green shading is lost against the armour.. i think in the name of artistic license (sp?) i will change them to a grey/brown. The bolts i will keep a little cleaner, i'm trying not to let all the areas of the armour be corroded and these are about the only few places available... i do need to brighten the guts, make them more 'alive' but i'm not going to go with the blood splatter.. maybe an ooze instead!! oor an uzi, yeah, 9mm

He's looking better and better. As I said, I love the metals and the chipped paint.
I think the armour should be a little darker (but that's just my impression of nurgle). This can be easily done by just washing over the armour with a dark green colour diluted with lots of water ( i think dark angels green + water works fine).
And how do you glue parts together after painting? Does the parts stick together with paint on them? What glue do you use, the gw super glue leaves white marks, so I guess you did'nt use that.
Cheers

Hei Mikkel, i have a nightmare with glue, i use loctite super glue gel but i wouldn't recommend it. I always scrape off any paint on the area to be glued first, very carefully with a scalpel or modelling knife. If i can get away with it i prefer to pin and green stuff any parts but to be honest i was lazy with Typhus... and his head fell off tonight ;D ;D ;D I think i'll keep his armour lighter, i mixed this colour up and really liked it, looks sickly IRL, but thanx
