I want some Inquisitorial Storm Troopers in my Grey Knight army, and I was hoping to do something different than just use the normal storm trooper models. I've come to the conclusion that the Vostroyans are absolutely perfect for this purpose, save one thing. The big fur hat. So. Before I go and spend more money that I don't have, does this sound like it could be done (I realise it can, but I mean realistically, and simply. Not hours of resculpting and what not). I'm thinking I'll just hack off the heads with a saw and replace them with cadian heads. I'll then use a simple press mold to make gas masks and guitar wire to reattach them to the backpack/airsupply. Does it sound doable? Any other suggestions?

I think it is certainly doable, as to how easy it would be I guess the only way to know that is to try one out. I think we need some of our resident converters to answer this one.

When I get a saw I'll pick up a blister with the plasma gun in it and try it out then. If it works then I'll definately do it, if not I'll probably just use the storm trooper models (they are nice models, I just wanted something different).

I think it's hard to say without seeing the models - i can see the front of the vostroyans on the GW store, but it depends what detail has been sculpted on the back. I would cut the hats off and resculpt the top of the head, but if you're not looking to do much work I would stick with the normal models and look for another way to make them different.

I realise it's going to take work, I just don't want to have to spend several hours on each individual model. If I had a dremel or something similar I could probably do it a bit quicker...

Hi. i havent been on much lately, i am having a very bad time with my GD entry and the hot weather is just making it worse. But I have just seen this and i thought it was the perfect excuse to have a break. So five minutes work gave me the following result. All it took was some clippers, a bit of clean up work with my knife and a hole drilled to pin the head. It was an absolute doddle. a small ball of green stuff under the head should sort out the neck and then you are good to go. i hope this helps. They should make a great unit. Nigel

Nice conversion mate, a unit like this would be cool.

Thanks for trying this out. I'll definately pick some up and see how it goes. I really like the gas masks on some of the models so I'll have to see if theres any way to keep them (I'm thinking I'll just shave the head down and fit the empty cadian helmets on...).

Well I picked up a blister and tried it out. Why I chose to do my favorite of the models as the test peice is beyond me... It worked out ok, but I know I can do better on the others. The helmet is a little crooked (his head is tilted the helmet is straight). I damaged his goggles a little too. I like it though. His head looks a little bit too large but I don't think it'll really take too much away from the model. Anyways a picture is worth a thousand words so here we go. *edit* Ok so me being the uptight perfectionist I am NEED to remove the helmet and put it on right. I cant just pop it off, the glue is holding too well (for once). I dont want to try cutting it off just yet as I don't want to risk damaging the face. Any ideas?

I don't have an suggestion on how to get the helmet off, but if you haven't yet settlet for the idea with the cadian helmets, if would suggest the elysian drop troops helmets from forge world: www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_ELYSIAN_DROP_TROOPS.html. Good luck on your project. Post up some pictures when the storm troopers are funished ;D Cheers Mikkel
