Is it ok to water down gloss varnish from the pot? I got some and its really thick (far thicker than paint) and I haven't tried watering it down yet so I figured I'd just ask first.

As far as I know it is ok to water it down but you do have to be careful not to overdo it as in my experience you can lose some of the shine. I don't use the stuff anymore unless I am applying decals. I apply a coat to the surface I apply the decal too to make the decal more invisible when it is finished.

It depends on what kind of varnish you are using! I assume it is an acrylic base, in which case it is fine to dilute it. I dilute it 50/50 when bringing back a shine to dullcoated armour. One point i noticed on GW 'ardcoat (apart from it's rubbish) is don't apply the brush on to ink effects, it will lift ink layers and make a damn mess, this happened to me on a much laboured piece of armour so i binned the stuff
