... arg, my first WIP.... i'm nervous... but this is the best mini i could start with! No joking, i have never had such a clean cast in my life.. all 7 short months of it in the mini world... and painting it has been a dream... However, i'm stuck, i want to do the dress green/white/gold like the irish family i'm from but i've been troubling over the sculpted details around the neck and as to how the sculptor may see them! Opinions, ideas and crits would be appreciated... one things for sure, if you buy a 8 megapix camera take the photo from 100 yards!! when i say my paintwork blown up on macro i nearly felt like snapping!

Very nice so far menace, the skin looks very nice, I think the eyes look a little big, she is looking a little startled but still excellent mate. I have to get me this from Ebob very soon.

I felt the same way about nthe eyes but i was hoping no-one would notice it! I'm afraid of cocking it up if i try to darkline the upper lid.. but hey, stay sober for a day and i might manage such a fine line! I forgot to say, this is a sculpt from Ebob Miniatures, as Tim so rightly said, you can see his work here; www.ebobminiatures.com

She is comeing along very nice. Indeed the eyes seem to be somewhat overdefined, but the skintone and the hair fit very well together and painted smoothly. I have no good ideas for the clothing though...

Very nice job so far. The eyes do need a little more work, but it comes with practice (I still have trouble with eyes). The skin tone is great, and the hair is excellent as well. I can't wait to seem more.

WOW, thats looking good. No offence to Ebob, but I never thought this was a very good sculpt due to the paintjob of her. But now I can see her in all her glory!
Nice one menace!

I like her very much menace, but I really think she could benefit from some darklining where the skin meets the cloth. I think it could make her look cleaner and more striking. You could also try some more shading on the gold. I really like the hair, the robe, nails and of course the base.

and... if you did some subtle freehand (interlocking lines or something like that) on the inside of the robe, it would reach another level. Sorry if I'm pushy but I see you have the potential and this sculpt gives you many possibilities

Cheers all 'n' drizzt! I'm going to put a fresh line between the cloth and skin as you said... the gold is tiny on this 28mm model so i'm going to wait to dullcote it and then give it a final highlight I was thinking of some freehand originally, then i thought it looked great plain, i may think on it for a day... i will be adding a gem on the gold and there seems to be a necklace i'll have to do... regards

She has come along beautifully, Menace! I very much like what you did with the "necklace". The conversion to a simple line of the v-neck is brilliant and looks very natural to me. She is quite the bonnie lass. What is left to do?

Hi Dennis. Beautiful mini, not really my style, but it's indeed beautifully painted.
I noticed it's from Ebob Miniatures. Can you get them in Norway, or have you bought it online or in another contry?
And you mentioned dullcoat, is it Testors? Can you get that in Norway too?
Cheers
Mikkel

@mikkel, i actually won this figure in an online competition over on O-R, Ebob put the finished work on his website and sent me another to paint!! It would not have been my first choice of mini before but it was a real pleasure to paint. I got Testors from Norwegian Modellers AS, Sem... Phone order 33378000 It was 90;- for 2 and 100;- for the post, i'll be ordering again next month so if you want to get some and save on post let me know and i'll get some extra

I live in Horten, and Sem is not too far away, so I will pay Norwegian Modellers a visit.
And congrats for winning the contest! ;D

Reviving an old thread but i have a lot of WIP's that i'd like to show and not be specific about the mini. Anyhow, first up is Boromir. I have been using frameclips from the movie to orientate my colours but as it is a mini some variations are necesary for contrast and to make it 'visible'. I've also trawled the net for mini references and found our own Tim's Boromir to be the most accurate to the movie This is a beautiful sculpt i would recommend to anyone, there are no difficult areas and if you want to be creative there is plenty of free-hand space, i'm enjoying it so much i've nearly forgot my Orc Next up is a gift i got from my good friend Curunir (who is so busy in work and gigs he hasn't had net time ) I have cut and joined two Rackham bases and built them up with Milliput, the base is still imperfect so i need to do more filling and fixing b4 i continue with the minis. At the mo they are removable for painting but in the correct position. I had to carefully bend the wraiths horse to make it reel away from the water (which is just epoxy glue and a big headache!) After Xmas i am going to give this 200% effort and enter it in the open cat at Golden Griffon; All comments and criticisms taken onboard, and usually used!

Boromir is looking great as I would expect it to and I am eagerly waiting to see it done, it is a little early to comment on Arwen and the wraith but I have no doubt they will be done just as well.

Why do you post up amazing minis all the time? I have only painted about five minis this year, and you have painted at least 20 minis, and everyone of them could possibly be a GD winner! It's not fair! Well, time to be serious. Boromir is so good, and the cloak and the mud splatter looks so real. He looks a bit glossy, but that's probably the photo or the way you've highlighted him. I can't really comment arwen/ringwraith yet, but I know it will be good. I feel bad for the competetive painters in Norway. They all look forward to golden griffon, hoping they have a chance for the gold. But suddenly an Irishman comes out of nowhere and wins all the gold prices ;D You better hire a bodyguard if you don't want to be killed by a horde paintbrush-armed teenagers ;D hahaha

It's not fair! ] I'm a sad, reclusive ol' man and my minis are my friends, i'd like to have lots of friends but they're not so much fun as just pewter ;D, as for GD i think i've got a bit to go yet So you don't think i'll win GD ;D.. bare tuller! You are right about the gloss, the weather here is so bad, fog, fog and more fog, so i've been unable to take photos outside and as he is not dullcoted yet he looks mega shiny under the lighting, the fig isn't that glossy really I think i'll bring a retinue on your advice, vacancies exist for acolytes, servitors and henchmen... a scribe would also be useful to document winning that lovely big trophy but i've probably now put a hex on my chances ;D ;D

If the sun ever comes out here in Norway before the spring, I'll take new photos of my minis ;D (btw, Boromir still looks awesome even though the photo is bad ;D) I think i'll bring a retinue on your advice, vacancies exist for acolytes, servitors and henchmen... a scribe would also be useful to document winning that lovely big trophy but i've probably now put a hex on my chances ;D ;D Seems like you have started to like the Inquisition/deamonhunters ;D I'll sign up for the scribe position, if a teenager with a digital camera counts as a scribe

Boromir's having a break, seeking some counselling for his temptative side... Stern is now on the shelf and for all his shortcomings i still like him, he's even blocking a good view of Typhus, but now it's on to my GG (That's Golden Griffon, Norway) entry for the 40K Single and my standard bearer for a future project. There's not a lot to see but the banner took me quite some time, the Skull is my 1st real go at sculpting and i had to do some serious sanding etc to get it smoooth but to no avail, i think i'll try and get some of those clay shapers. The rest is plasticard, termie bits and a lot of green stuff/milliput, melted plastic for purity seals and gardening wire for the staff. The Termie will be on a snowy base a la Stern and carry an incinerator in his left arm. I hope to update this after every session...because i want your criticism and i want to win ( it's a good excuse for the wife if i come home drunk!) I know there ain't much for now but for me it's been hours of work, enjoy

I like it so far, and it looks promising. I will watch the progress and hope to learn something.
Btw, you mentioned plasticard. can you get that in Norway?
