I haven't had to much time painting over the last 5 months due to the birth of my second son, work commitments etc. I was finding it hard to get back into the swing of things so I thought I would start palying with some easy stuff firtst. So I made a rock out of fimo and painted it. Then thought I have a manticore I wanted to paint for a guy so I will make a base for that. Now I am doing a "quickie" paint job on a high elf lord, just to get everything going and then I will start on the manticore itself. Like I said just a quickie not looking for anything but a finished model.

Nice work so far especially on the base. The metals are looking good on the elf too.

I shaped the rock to the form I wanted it just roughly. Then I got a piece of articifial wood (the type you use in fish tanks) and brock a couple of bits off. I textured the fimo by pressing the two bits of broken log into the surface, using one for support (so I didn't leave finger prints or obscure bits I had already gone over) and using the other bit a little more aggresively to rough up the surface.

Great job on the rock--I'll have to remember that idea on the texturing.

Some more work done on the Lord. Only getting the odd hour in every few days and as I said this is just a quick job after all. And yes even in Hamilton there is life in the Hobby. I am looking forward to seeing that LOTR mag.

I've seen fimo mentioned around and seeing what it can do here i must try to lay my hands on some... does it dry rock hard as opposed to plastic like green stuff And would it be suitable for sculpting walls and suchlike The highelf is coming along nicely, the gem stands out well on the helm, and its great to see more real metals, hard to criticise before you get a little further... i look forward to the completion

Thanks for the tutorial! I'm off to the pet store to try and find something that will work for me. Good work on the mini. I like the color selection on the palette thus far.

It comes out of the oven seeming a bit spongy but once it cools it goes hard and you can sand it, drill it etc.
