Here is my latest. She is still early on. I tend to basecoat everything first and then go back and do the shading/highlighting. A couple of firsts on this one. The rust effect on the ax and the plates and I am in the middle of the tartan. The right eye I left with a thin coat of white to give this hag that glaucoma look. Any suggestions at this point?

Got a little crazy on the tartan...is the white too much? Any suggestions on what color to paint that doll? And what the heck is that thing under the skull?

Hi, the glaucoma idea is cool, but i doubt people will recognize the class touch , about the tartan i'll try the shadow grey or shadow plus wolf grey instead of white. I have no idea about the thing near the skull (maybe wood?)

Looks good for such an early start I couldn't do a mini that way, but I will be watching with interest how this one progresses. Keep us up dated.

There is a lot of work in this mini So you've given even more with Tartan!!! I think the tartan looks too colour rich as when looking at tartan it tends to be made with natural dyes.. you may want to give it several ultra thin glazes (using a glaze medium or flow enhancer to keep it consistant) of raw umber or scorched brown or black to reduce the saturation and tone down the white. A little tip before freehand, i paint the cloth as well as i would want it to be, highlights and all, then i laquer the area before i attempt any freehand. This way if i'm not happy with it i can remove it easily with a little brush soap and still have a perfect base to try again... or forget about it as i'm usually quite peeved when i thingy things up ps.. love the rust

Could it be a bone? I think it's a bone. The thing under the skull that is. Great job so far. I have to agree with menace about glazing it to tone down the tartan. Keep up the good work.

Difficult to say what the thing is below the skull, I would also vote to bone... even if not, if you paint it like a bone, it will be a bone I like the overall look so far, and the rust is already just excellent! Fits very well to the figure. Looks really like someone tried in a hurry to sharpen the blade, but didn't really get far...

Slow going on this one, but I have changed the white to yellow on the tartan and did a very thin wash of dark brown to try and scale back the brightness a bit (thanks, Menace!).
