Been painting this one for a week now. It goes as present to a close friend who is an avid empire gamer. Would very much like to know what you think about it and how you think I could improve it. (Some areas are still undercoated). Thanks in advance!

Looking nice so far, for me the cloak is the weekspot as the highlights seem too sudden, I think I would try and smooth that out a bit more, otherwise top job mate.

Excellent job on the metallic parts of the piece. I would agree with Tim on the cloak and might do some shading to the gem--other than the white spot is looks a bit too uniform.

A great mini, it must be seriously good fun to paint... a version of this won Golden Griffon, WH singel fig cat here in Norway...
I would have to agree with earlier comments on the highlight transition on the cloak, it needs more blending, and i'm not so convinced on the colour of the highlight, it doesn't seem natural to have an orange highlight on a red cloak.........

I also have to say, it looks good so far. The color combo comes along well.
The metallics are great, I would highlight/shade the cloak and the arms more. Also the leggings and the shoes could get some shading. Don't forget about the base.

It is looking good, the cloak is better now that you have lost the yellow extrme highlights but I still think it should be highlighted but without going up to the yellow you had before, also the shine needs to ge as well. But I think that on the whole it is a rather nice looking mini you have there mate.

it is very good and your friend was right to be happy with it, I think the outstanding parts for me are the armour and also the gems and the hip flask, all extremely well done.

I think I'll do a regiment of them, still very WIP but do you like anything you see?

A little early to make any real comments as you have mainly only the base tones down but the sword is starting to look very nice.

I've started painting a high elf mage from 4-5th edition, one of my favourite minis. One of my favourite executions is this one by Pouppee Canope: I've also seen some others on CMON. As I gather it is a popular mini. Do you have any executions you like most, or any ideas on the colour scheme? I probably will go for a white tunic to make him fit with most high elf armies, but I'm open to anything. Thanks for the help!

Yes again that is a nice mini, and poupees version is indeed excellent, I would like to see this done in a different colour scheme, I have seen this many times and it always seems t obe in a blue or shade of blue type scheme. It would be refreshing to see it done differently.

Many layers, but still needs much retouching. I don't know why they turn out messy... I am fairly good in brush control, and I use very very thin paint and many layers.... Anyway...

Working with thinned paint is tough. I seem to have trouble keeping the paint smooth with very thin paint--my minis seem to end up kind of blotchy. I think it is looking good so far, though Drizzt. The skin seems a bit dark for a high elf to me--are you going to go lighter on the skintone?

I don't think it looks messy at all drizzt, your control looks excellent, keep this up and you will have a wonderful mini there.

Marco Colombo is a really good mini, i think.I dunno about the elf, he looks too dark for my taste, but that might be the photo.!

@jabberwocky, the picture could take some lightening, the highlights are really up to pure white. @tim: thanks tons man, it's really encouraging to hear good words for my painting, esp. from a painter of your calibre. @charley: thanks a lot. Marco Colombo was very fun to paint (till the accident). I will soon have more photos of the elf, and I hope you will get to like him
