Recently I have my confidence in life and also the hobby have taken a serious bashing and I find myself at the moment in a constant state of depression that I am finding nigh on impossible to get out of. One of the things that plays on my mind or not is the success of this site. With my interest in the hobby fast dropping to the level of zero I am beginning to question whether or not it is worth keeping this site going. I ask the question would it be missed if it were not here (I personally do not think it would be), there are after all many other forums out there that have much better content than this. So I am asking this question and depending on the outcome of the poll I will act accordingly. Should I leave the site open for members I should I quite while I am ahead and simply close the site altogether?

Tim, if you ask the fellows, they'll vote yes.If you get depression from running this site, close it down. You could leave over admin-work to other people and still be nominal head-honcho.I'd offer you my help but i'm useless with computers. All the best, whatever you decide.A.

I'd like to see the site keep going, it IS a friendly place to be and the only forums i'm happy enough to be around.. but i'd echo the others, if it has become an 'obligation' and that doesn't help negative feelings, then perhaps you could step aside for a while if anyone was willing to shoulder the responsibility or ultimately, if it is in your best interest, retire the site.
Whatever, i'll respect your choice... keep well bud.

i would miss it were it to go, this is the first forum i joined and i post here the most of any i am a member off, its your desicion at the end of the day though and whatever we say you will still do what you want to do, i would like to think if you were to leave the hobby you would keep the site going under the current admins and pop in here and there to say hi though. whatever helps ease the pressures you may be under at the moment, do what you need to do, ( i voted yes )

I'm going to echo the other guys here Tim. If you ask the active members then you are going to get all yes's. We're active members because we love the site. Since I joined two months ago this has become my most regularly visited forum. I love the smaller forums and the sense of friendliness and belonging that usually go along with them.
This decision though ultimatly rests with you mate. If you are feeling bogged down by the whole hobby, and running this place has become a burden then we all will understand your reasons. No one is going to make someone do something they don't want to do. Above all do what is right for you.
Stay safe mate.

Whatever you decide, we will all respect your desicion. This decision is your to make, and we should not do anything to affect that decision. But if you decide to quit the hobby, I hope you won't close down the site. WoM is imho, the best mini painting forum out there. It might not be the biggest forum, but it is the most friendly one. Yes of course we could find all the same stuff on other sites, but maybe not the same people, and they are the ones that make up WoM. Maybe one of the admins could run this site for a while, and then see how it goes. Anyways, the site won't be the same without the demonic overseer though

All I can do is echo what the others have said. This is the only forum I have freaked at (in only about a year's time) and I have been following the online community for a good five years. Visiting here has become a daily (if not multiple daily) ritual for me.

There are many other forums and sites out there, but there's only one WOM, and I for one am proud to be a WOMble, as there are people here who are honest and friendly, and I wouldn't hesitate for minute to call you guys friends.
BUT.....
If the running of the site, or just the general stressof having the site is making you ill then please shut it down, after all if you don't have your health you don't have anything. That is the last thing I'd want to see, you being ill at my/our expense.
Hopefully it won't come to that, but if you need anything mate, I'm just down the road.

Well, I voted yes, although it still isn't working for me, so that makes 11.
I visit several forums and out of them this is among one of the smaller sites. This gives it the capacity to be a much friendlier and more atmospheric forum than places like the Warseer for example which is huge. Although the people you meet on these sites are of course just as helpful, it doesn't feel as cosy as WoM and you feel lost amongst it's huge membership. Do not guage the success of this site on it's size or posting frequency. You have helped develop a small community of friends, fellow painters and modellers who can share advice, show off each others projects and have a good laugh together. In my mind that's something to be proud of and you can safely say to yourself, yes World of Mini's is a success. Maybe you should take a short break from the hobby, leave the site in the care of others whilst you get to grips with your other problems and when you feel the urge, return to retake your throne and re-establish your dominance as the all powerful overlord of WoM!!

well, I can just echo what the other wombles have said so far. this really is my favorite corner of the net, I love it here. You are a great buddy Tim. If the running of the site make you feel bad tham I think you should close it, though I would really miss this place. But I would not feel good either if I knew you felt bad running it. Maybe you should just take a small Hobby break, and try to comeback later? And remember you have a bunch of mods and admins willing to help you! "I can't carry it for you, Frodo! But i can carry you!" or some thing like that Do whatever is best for you pal. Best Regards,
André/Razzy* *pink again! Edit: BTW, I voted yes

Hey Tim. I will echo the response from all above. If you can leave it running with the other mods taking up some or all of the workload I would be happy BUT you need to think of you first.
As someone who is currently been treated for depression I hope you have seen someone about how you are feeling. God may love a martyr but personally I say fuck it - ask for help if you need it. Lifes to short to feel shit all the time. Times like this can also be an absolute boon for us if we use it to actually sit down and take stock of what is or isn't important.

Tim,
I know i haven't been here that long and due to certain events in my life i haven't been the best WOMer in the last couple months. But from what i have seen this is THE BEST personal friendly forums that i have been able to be a part of. All i can really say is what all the others already have. I completely understand what it is like to go something like what you mentioned, Living in Alaska we have something called SAD seasonal affected disorder, when it gets dark and cloudy and grey most Alaskans get depressed. me being born here i have it to. What ever you decide to do I hope that i will be able to stay in contact with people here as i have found that you and everyone are good people and would be a pleasure meeting up with in England or anywhere else there may be a conventions i might get to.
Best regards n wishes AW
ps. voted to keep the site up n running

First of all, yes, I'm still here! I haven't been around much as I should have but I'm back for good now. I've got some catching up to do but I'll be back in the routine soon enough. Now, on to the topic. I voted yes (duh). I'm not going to be like the rest of you guys and use the word 'echo'. This is the greatest mini site of all time in my opinion, better than O-R, TLA and all the other big sites. It's the small communities where your post actually gets noticed and not shoved to the bottom which is one good thing. With less people it allows the members to get to know each other better and become good friends. If possible, you should keep the site open. Like others have said, if you take a break, see someone about it and try and get it sorted, me, Matt and Andre would be more than happy to keep WoM alive while you get things sorted out. Of course, if you are really finding it a strain to keep it running, then close it. None of us want you to crack under all of life's pressures, so do what you think is right for you. All I can do is hope to influence you to keep WoM open. Perfect quote from Razh there by the way. Never forget that we're here for you. Take care and look after yourself mate, Steven.

I would be happy to see WoM stay open as its a great forum with a lot of nice, helpful people on it that I've never found on other larger websites, but of course not at your expense. If keeping things running is not working for you, do what suits you.
If you want to take a break for a while or forever, I'd personally like to see the site stay up, I think between a few mods we could keep things running smoothly.
Whatever you chose, best wishes man

yep id say take a breather tim..no use shutting it down..you can always let someone here admin it for you..its wayy to popular to kill off..on the other hand depression is no fun and even trivial things can set it off..even things we like..I know Ive been there done that also..sounds nutty I know.. so whatever you decide we back you...myself id like to see it stick around

Hi,
I didn't vote. I think such a decision is ultimately up to you.
I don't know your situation, but I know my own. I have many things all taking my limited time, and sometime I feel like giving some of them up.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.

Well thankyou all for your input. I think in the long run WoM should and will stay open for business. As for myself hopefully the crap that is taking its toll will reduce in time. I am not in a position where I can seek professional help ie the doctor. If i were to be put on anti depressants or counselling I would be taken out of my job for sure being as it is safety critical and the last thing the railway would want is a nutter in charge of one of their fault and maintenance teams. Thank you all for re-affirming what I had hoped that this site is and always will be a friendly little corner of the net.

the last thing the railway would want is a nutter in charge of one of their fault and maintenance teams. Lol, well that one way of putting it! I'm sure you'll be back to your normal self soon enough, and I am especially pleased to hear that you won't close the site.

You didn't really expect anyone to vote "No", did you? This site is definitely one of the best.
I know I don't post all that much here, but I stop by here several times a day. There's only a very few forums that I check that often and that's because they're not only good, informative boards, but also because the people are so great.
I'd hate to see WoM go and I'm glad to see that you're going to keep it around.
And just remember, Tim: even if you can't seek "professional" help, maybe just talking to someone, even if it's just a friend, might help.
We're here for you, man, so hang in there!

...as it is safety critical and the last thing the railway would want is a nutter in charge of one of their fault and maintenance teams. Tim, if anything goes wrong at work, just blame the cleaner guy who sweeps the leaves off the line hehehehe!!! Glad to hear that we will still be open for business, would hate to lose any golden opportunities to wind up jnr. If its any consolation I feel like chucking all my mini's out the window today and all I'm doing is painting yellow on terminators!! 4 coats so far...

Tim, I voted yes, but you have answered the question already, well better late than never. Whatever, you need to take of yourself first, I learnt that after 4 years of bad times.
I am pleased you will keep it open it has been the place place for me though not a heavy contributed at least you are listened to hear and no derided for any comments or standards you have reached.
By ther way how would the railways recognised a nutter running the railways haven't they always been run by the mad hatter.
Good luck to you and yours

I replied YES because of the simple fact that this is the freindliest forum i have ever been on, i was simply amazed at the welcome i got and everyone is really helpfull, this, it would be a great loss to see this site go...
But if it is making you feel ill i would respect your decision of shutting it down because your health must come first.
