Hey all,
I was just wondering whether you guys prefered painting to gaming or vice versa.
I for one haven't played the game in about a year, and only ever played a few. I am a firm painter, aiming to be painting at a display standed.
What bout you?
( note: could a mod add a poll for me please? )

Painting for me also. i only paint for display, or once again for competition. I like to compete. My wife tells me thats an unhealthy obsession. If anybody here used to watch a british TV prog called the FAST SHOW they will remember a character called "competitive dad" thats me.

Painting. It gives me something to concentrate on besides my daily chores. I luv the suspense of painting a face or trying some new material.I like the process of thinkin' about the result and the actual realization. Wouldn't mind trying gaming, though..

Yay go the painters.
I was just painting at my friends house the other day ( he's pretty new to the hobby ) and he said how relaxing it was, just being mindful of what your doing. I suspect gaming is a tad more intence!
Thanks for your replies, anyone else?

I used to do alot of gaming but I now I am a painter and that is it. I did recently play a game of Mines of Moria at GW with my daughter and that was fun but I wouldn't want to get back into gaming full time now.

20 years ago I was a gamer--the painting stemmed from the need to have something on the table (and it showed). After college, med school, and residency I picked up the brush again in 2002. I don't have time to game anymore and am strictly a painter. Although truth be told, a more accurate description would be that I read about painting, hehe. I spend a lot of free time reading forum and articles and admiring others' work. When I do paint, it is the best that I can do. I like trying new techniques when I can. I paint just for the fun of it!

I always wanted to be a gamer....just really don't know too many people who would be 'in' to it.
I paint for fun though. I have amassed a goodly number of rule books and game sets though...not sure why, other than I kind of like skimming through them to give me painting ideas.
I guess I consider myself more of a future gamer....Once all my minis are painted up, maybe I'll game with them. (thats going to be awhile!)

I'm kind of with you Jimmy, though I cant even finish single models at the moment, so armys seem a very distant goal.
Well i'm on a good site then, where hobby is held above game.

I too prefer painting over gaming. I seem to go into another part of my mind when I paint. Gets me away from reality for a few hours. I have tried gaming a few times but never really enjoyed it enough to do it again. Getting a lot of comments about my minis seems more gratifying anyway.

Painting and converting/sculpting for me, but then you probably knew that if you have seen some of my other posts where I mentioned it before! At the moment I am purely doing it for three reasons, 1) to develop my artisitic skills (as a side benefit I am hoping painting minis will lead me to be able to do 2D stuff better as well one day!) This is my number one goal because I am so fed up with people telling me I'm arty - I should be doing something with it instead of wasting away. When I have my workshop I also forsee me being able to use the hobby as a tool to relax, a place to hide away. At the moment I get distracted easily by the fact my PC is right next to my workbench. 2) Ebay sales. I need to earn some extra money to pay for my camera and the work that will need doing in my new house. And beyond that because I enjoy having a little sideline business of my own, it's something I always wanted to do. 3) To be able to see my work enjoyed by others either as a display piece for them to enjoy painting or a gaming piece that is a little unusual. Conversions are great to have in an army for that individuality they bring. The challenge involved in creating an interesting conversion is also a great pleasure for me to produce and a good test of the imagination!

For me it used to be painting, and it probably will stay my focus, but I'm starting to have a lot of fun playing games. I played an ogre army with my orcs a couple days ago and managed to slaughter nearly his entire 1500 point army, and only loosing a unit of wolf riders. It was a blast.
