I was talking to a friend about tattoos and we both remembered hearing about some sort of "permanent temporary" tattoo that will last around 6 months and I figured why not get something done. Well. It's a myth. Really bummed me out. I don't think I could commit to a real tattoo, this would be a good way to see if I liked it or not. *sigh* I was really looking forward to it... I was even planning it out. Oh well...

i remember the temporary tattoo thing, they never used to last as long as six months from what I remember but they were a cool way of seeing if you realy wanted one. I have often thought about getting a tatt done butnever comitted to it, I guess I never found a design that I would want to carry for the rest of my life.

Yeah... The temporary decal ones only last a couple days, and then henna art only lasts 3-4 weeks (and it didnt take well to my skin despite leaving it on for hours). I was looking at doing a sleeve for my right arm (like tattoos from shoulder to wrist, but I didnt get very far into figuring out what I wanted...). Oh well. Now I have more money for minis (like I need that :

You can never have enough minis, that is what I keep telling the wife they are an investment.

True enough, although now that I would in a Rogue Trader store, and get 25% off it's even worse. I keep bringing home minis that I really didn't need. Most will go back to the store for display purposes though... Need to get more people interested in it.

Hmm ya I thought about getting a tattoo but if I got one I would want it to be of something I really liked or is meaningful to me, like not just a design. The problem comes when in 30 years when I’m 46 and hopefully have a family and I no longer like whatever it is that I stamped onto my body, and it would probably be something to do with Warhammer, I will be hitting myself in the head for putting it on my body in the first place. So I guess I’ll stick to painting Tattoos on minis.

....in 30 years when I’m 46... I have socks older than you - and paintbrushes that are still usable. We were not allowed any in our unit (no identifying marks) and after I got out, I had no desire to poke ink into my body. Had some Navy buddies that got lightning bolts down the edge of their right hand - kinda cool when they saluted. There are some airbrush paints that are henna based that will last 3-5 days if you are just looking for designs.

Never saw the appeal of tattoos myself. Nothing against anyone who has them, but just never had the urge. My dad was in the Navy, and has tattoos on his arms. He tells me they were one of the dumbest things he had ever done....that and fathering me...(ok, maybe he didn't say that last part)

I have several tattoos, all designed by myself from Celtic knotwork patterns and done by my brother who was a tattooist.. i still love them many years later and they still look fresh but as my bro passed away unexpectedly they have a very important sentimental meaning for me. I don't think tattoos carry the same stigma as they used to so maybe have a small and discreet one to begin and see how it goes? However if you have any doubts at all just continue with the minis.

I agree that tattoos no longer carry the same stigmaa. I try to treat my body with as much respect as possible, and I'm not sure permanently marking it when I don't even know what I want is a good idea. I think I'll probably get a tattoo eventually, but probably not any time soon. I love the idea of having something unique and meaningful but right now I can't think of anything that is one or the other. I just thought it'd be really cool to get a temporary tattoo that lasts long enough for you to get used to it, and tell how you may really feel in a couple years.

That won't tell you how it will look in a few years when the skin has streatched and the image is distorted and the colors have changed/faded.
