I have one question.
I going to change my living place in the last week of september and i dont know wether i have time to paint there or not.
Can I send you (Tim) the pics when i have finished the mini(in the next two weeks) and you will put them on to vote when the time ends?
Because I also dont know when I will get there Internet.

question:
i found the mini i want to paint. it's Archaon. and the base is pre-sculpted.
i like to paint pre-sculpted bases with the rest of the mini, because i want the overall theme to fit right. am i allowed?

i think tim already explained in an above post that he accepts that models have pre sculpted bases and they should be left black (hope this helps)

but that makes no sense... there's no conversion involved, and it's part of the model =/

Why does it make no sense, the contest is about the paint job on the mini, not the base. The fact that Archaeons base is such a large part of the mini, I'm going to say no. Not even just left black, it would look unfinished.
It's different with the integral bases such as Olleys Armies and Reaper do, as they are really no more than bits of metal with holes poked into them, and thus painted black aren't going to be that detrimental to the mini on a whole.
So no sorry Archeaon is out.

Yep that is exactly the point, the contest is about the painting on the mini and integral bases are to be left in the undercoat colour of choice ie black/ white or whatever colour undercoat you use. It is not difficult to find minis that have no integral bases and I have seen too many minis that rely on their basing to take them a higher level. This is the first time I have used this rule and I feel that it is not an unreasonable one.

i don't feel it's unreasonable, i just feel that it's too integrated into the "no conversions" rule.
i could understand you saying "no dynamic bases that you've made". but Archaons mount doesn't even have a standard cylinder joint onto the base, it's a huge square that means i'm gonna have to butcher something to stick it in while i paint it otherwise. and like i said the whole miniature would be painted as one anyway. i can't paint him with the lava glow from the base, if you can't see where it's coming from >_>
which means my selection of minis to choose from has dropped dramatically, i don't have access to anything other than GW minis. and i don't want to buy a new mini just to paint it, i want to use it with my army.

The rule is simple and it stays, firstly there have been no other complaints about the rule from other potential entrants, secondly you say you only have GW minis that then should give you an easier selection to choose from than say someone who only has reaper or other minis with integral bases which I again say are fine just left undercoated. Thirdly I have no intention of relaxing the rule as those that are entering may have made their selections on the minis based on the rules published and therefore if I were to change it now (which I am not) that would then put them at a disadvantage. The prizes for this contest are being supplied by myself and funded by myself so the rules I set will stay. If you mini choice won't work for this then choose another mini that you do have or if you don't agree then you don't have to enter the choice is yours, the fact is that bases have swung contests in the past for minis and this time it is the mini itself on a plain black or undercoated integrated base that will be judged. I do not intend to discuss this any further.

Finished my entry piece this afternoon. Just like me to leave it to the last minute although my mini of choice didn't arrive until just over a week ago even though I ordered it over a month ago.
I am happy with my entry but now I will be glad to get back to some painting purely for fun rather than competing. The stress, the self criticism, the late nights, heavy man!!! Ha Ha!
Anyways...Looking forward to seeing everyone else minis now and best wishes to all.
Urchin.
