1 Whats the best thing about the hobby?
all the nice people who don't laugh at your painting, and when you get the feeling, "hey that's not bad"
2 how did you come across the hobby?
walked into a shop and mad GW man grabbed me and wouldn't let me leave till I played the game with a mini he made me sit and paint.
3 and what is the worst part?
my daughter saying, "I thought you were good at painting till I saw these ones" and "Dad, shall I roll the die for you?"

1 Whats the best thing about the hobby? The superbly sculpted minis on offer from all kinds of companies.
2 how did you come across the hobby? Back in 1989, I came across a copy of White Dwarf and was hooked from then. Although I knew about Citadel miniatures already as a friend collected them and painted them with enamel paints.
3 and what is the worst part? The overall cost of stuff, that being the overly large overspend on minis that don't get painted due to lack of time, ( but have to be bought anyway), and the overly critical non painters on the internet, who will nitpick at your painted minis but either don't paint or won't show their minis.

1 Whats the best thing about the hobby?
Getting to own and paint some of the finest miniatures in the world by all sorts of different manufacturers. The internet revolution has made this possible as pre internet especially in the UK we were really limited as to what was available at the time.
2 how did you come across the hobby?
I was given The Lord Of The Rings as a present for my 12th birthday by my grandparents and got hooked on fantasy right from the start. Then I found out that you could get fantasy miniatures a little bit later on the original sets of lotr figures were then produced by Citadel and the rest is history. I bought my first miniature which was a Grenadier mounted Knight from a place called Kingston Galleries in Hull (there was not a GW there at the time in fact GW still as the company we know today wasn't in existence, it was still a firm that sold games of all types with shops in York, Nottingham, and London and I think that was about it). That would have been about 1983/ 84.
3 and what is the worst part?
Having tons of stuff you know you will never paint, also the ever increaing cost of this hobby.

1. The painting as a process itself. Seeing the mini develop while placing those little brush strokes on it. Some people of the community, I have made friends for life with gaming in general. Seeing how the hobby evolved via media as the internet.
2. Back in '94 I started working and found I had a lot of free time during the weekends which I couldn't fill in (never been a big pub hanger). A friend introduced me to Magic the Gathering which was my entry into gaming in general. From there I went to roleplay and wargaming.
3. Grey armies ;-) Other part of the community that does not have a real life, and in general is behaving like an arse (I find this part the worst, and the older I get the more difficult I find it to deal with it).

Favourite part: Relaxing by painting and having a beer.
When I started: 97 or 98. A friend brought in his old White Dwarf mags and was hooked straight away
Dislikes: Prices, its a small dislike, but a dislike none the less.
Best of luck with the write up! You must post it here when your finished.
