some stuff I am working on last week: just basecoat here on most surfaces shading of tummy and arms done and first highlight: This model is also a return for me to artists paints, I used gouache paint to shade the flesh and will use them for further highlighting. Sorry for the heavy contrast but the almost white cloak and dark flesh is difficult to make a picture of, next month I get a lighttent with two decent lightbulbs from the missus (she can use them to make pictures of her jewelery too hehe). Let me know what you think of it.

Looking nice, the shading is very smooth so far. Look like it'll turn out to be a great mini.

very nice blending...
I've been pondering on trying to do a mini in oil, used to paint my 1:35 minis faces with oil but it's been a while now.
look forward to an update on this.

Fine work on the whites--I like it quite a bit. What colors are you using for the skintones?

skintone consist of: basecoat: 1/1 irdrian flesh/Khardic flesh (P3 paints) first shade: pure irdrian flesh next shading was done with gradual adding of burnt omber (artists gouache paint) first highlight: pure khardic flesh next highlights: will be done with gradual adding of naples yellow (artists gouache paint)
The white of the cloak is menoth white highlight also from P3. Shading of the cloak will be done with menoth white but I am not sure I want to highlight the cloak to pure white.
I used lots of very thin layers, that way the shading builds very slow but stays very smooth. I kept very little paint on the brush, I think I am just a fraction away from drybrushing. I feel this give most control when applying layers.
I hope to get an update out this evening.

I really need to learn about all the different paints you guys use... you talk about these P£ stuff etc. and I haven't a clue what you are on about. Gibberish to me Sounds like a very good and skilled process [to me at least] and the shading results are brilliant! Can't wait to see your next update!

Don't worry about it mate I use GW only although I am thinking of trying out Cote D'Arms paint range. P3 is the Privateer Press paint range and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Tim,
Coat d'Arms is the old GW paint when they had round fliptop pots. It is practically the same paint as foundry which I slowly get more and more pots off too. Lately I am collecting more paints then minis lol

next stage, skin mostly finished and first shading on the cloak. The last highlight on the skin went on chalky so I glazed it back a lot, I hope I can give the highlights a bit more when doing the face.

Looks good mate, are you using white when doing the skin highlights. White tends to give a chalky appearance even when mixed in with other colours.

No Tim I am using naples yellow from a gouache tube. I find it is a universal highlight for most warm colors. It is a very pale yellow. The chalkiness came from not thinning high enough. I am getting the hang of layering but I still make mistakes.
Edited: As an afterthought, I read somewhere that the chalkiness that white is always giving is because it is a property of titanium white, where most of our hobby paints whites are based on. For a smoother highlighting to white use zinc white, it is a transparent white which layers a lot smoother.

Looking great so far tuxit! I was thinking of picking up some of those P3 paints to try them out, and you've convinced me to give them a go.
I presume you are going to use nmm for the metal areas, I'm looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
