News found on the same website as the Mordor Suplement release schedule was found. Found on The WarstoreWe knew of the Wash paints (if we got April White Dwarf) but the new spraygun and propellant sounds good. I look forward to these myself. Ad the new washes will be in the same type of packaging as the Foundation paints. Thanks, Jake

To be honest none of this interests me at all, we have been down the road of washes before and if these are anything like those were then they will be crap. As for the spray gun I am taking it that it is some sort of air brush system much like the one Humbrol make that uses a can of propellant if so I would much rather go and by one that works of a compressor a little more expensive for the initial outlay but worth while in the end. The book I have the last version and to be honest it never comes off the shelf so can't see me buying this one. I have to say that the last issue of White Dwarf was a total let down considering it was an anniversary issue. The only mini they are releasing this month his only available for two days and is not a patch on the original version. I know as I have it.

just read this post and it interested me. What do you think wrong with the washes? I have been wondering about trying some.

If they are anything like the washes they released in the past they will be rubbish. Time will tell though. Personally I don't see what is wrong with the current range of Inks. You get into methods of painting with set ways and recipes and then they go and change the range by getting rid of stuff and then bringing out different stuff. After nearly 30 years of this it gets quite annoying.

personally I'm a bit pissed off and totally agree with Tim on this point. and as they have stopped selling the inks, which are running out on the shelfs too, they are forcing us to change our routine... right now I'm trying out new inks from the P3-range while waiting for god knows what from GW

The washes are more meant for army painters. At mini-art-con I talked to a few people that had tried them and they were very happy about it. I don't think they are meant for the public of this website ;-) I use myself P3 inkts and vallejo game color inks. But mostly when I am painting units.
The spraygun is once again a pure ripoff. As someone coming from plastic modelling (planes, tanks) I know these things are crap (first hand experience). If you really want to airbrush, bite the nail and buy a real double action pistol and decent compressor. You will have more happiness for years with this then a spraygun on a can of propellant.
I saw this coming for a long time since I remember an article online or in white dwarf where they were once again explaining that their studio developed a new and unique way to fast paint tanks, using an airbrush... It's so typical GW, they always claim to invent techniques which are used for years in other modeling circles, sometimes they market a new product around this is White Dwarf and sell it way overpriced. I can imagine very well that many young people will leave the hobby disappointed because their overpriced spray gun does not deliver the results they see in White Dwarf. I am personally convinced that these marketing tactics are responsible for more young people to leave the hobby then their current prices. I see it happening enough in my community.
Sorry for the rant, just needed to have this off my chest, I can talk a lot more about this, but I think this thread is not the place.

ive not been in the hobby long and the inks i have are useful evry now and again but changing ranges that your used to as tim said really gets on my wick and as a few people said the airbrush ""woooo in the shape of a hand flamer who cares..."" is gonna be cheap tacky and will clog up every 5 seconds and the shop will never use it themselves i went the full 9 yards as it were and brought a proffessional airbrush kit and compressor and ive rarely used it but when i do an imperial guard army it will be a godsend that i splashed out on it deff wont be buying the book ive flicked through the original and is about as interesting as a white wall. i wont be buying any of this tbh unless im realy desperate for the washes (highly doubt)

TBH I'm rather pissed at the fact the Inks are changing yet again. I do use them alot, and it's taken quite a few years to perfect the techniques I use them for. So I will give the new ones a go, but I'm not holding my breath.

ok... not too many fans of the washes then .... how do you buy your paints? I have only got into this recently and have been getting by with the basic box and a couple of others. Would you recomend a big buy like the mega paint set, or just picking up things as you go?

I was bought the mega paint set for a present and it is a good way to get all the colours but you will find there will be alot of them you will use very little or never at all. As you continue in the hobby you will soon come to realise the colours you use the most and need to replace more often than others. I tend to keep at least one pot of my favourite colours spare so I never actually run out. White, Black, Silver, Boltgun Metal, Chainmail, Bleached Bone, Graveyard Earth, Kommando Khaki, Scorched Brown, Snakebite Leather, Bestial Brown and Vermin Brown are colours that I get through really quickly. I would suggest buying the ones you are likely to get the most use out of and then add to that as time goes by.

when they stopped making the inks i was meant to pick up a couple but after 2 days of the sellthrough the inks i wanted had completely gone which yanked my chain so ive got a tiny bit of brown ink which most people including the staffmembers in my local gw (and i seem to be the only 1 that has it) need and keeps getting used by them... i might try another brand of inks any reconmendations?

I have heard but not tried Windsor and Newton, also Cote D Arms are basically the old GW paint Range and they do inks as well. James bought some at Salute so he'd be the best to ask about that. I am going to get some at some point as he has already told me the paints are good.

The Coat D'Arms Brown Ink is slightly more reddish in tone, than the GW one, but when it dries there isn't much in it. I got the chestnut and black inks too so when I have tried them I will let you all know.

vallejo gamecolor has now a range of inks which is excellent, I use them for colors that P3 inks do not have, if you have access try P3 inks too. They look and behave a lot like citadel inks, only they come in dropper bottles.
As for buying, I usually try to buy the paints I need at the moment for a paintjob. This works when you have a gameshop that is easy accessible, As Tim said you will find that you need some colors more then others, typically these are browns, black and white.

thanks for all the reconmendations well recieved i might have to be sneaky though and use a mixing pot to put another brand of ink in bcoz i do most of my painting there (during college breaks) as when i get home i generaly dont feel like painting.
also when it comes to buying paint i generally buy what i need when i need or if its only once then it can be borrowed from gw but generally i have 2 of colours i use most.
wich reminds me, i need to find my ruddy camera (damn i hate moving house)
