I recently dug out some of the oldest minis I still have left out of some forgotten storage room in my parents' house. I have been thinking of stripping some of the good sculpts and re-painting them. I thought I should document some of the original paintjobs first, though... And here is one:
It's an old Citadel mini called Harboth and he's the captain of a unit of orc archers that you could buy in a boxed set with about 20 minis in it. I think it's from the late 80ies and it was painted thereabouts too or possibly in 90 or 91. I don't remember exactly. I don't think the paintjob is appallingly bad (I had been painting for several years at the time), but I have made some progress since then! Here's a more recent mini (painted earlier this year):
Back in the 80ies and early 90ies it was quite difficult, at least for me, to improve my skills quickly since miniature painting was quite an obscure hobby. There were, not to my knowledge at least, no magazines in Swedish and it was very difficult to find WD or any other international publication. I had only a few friends who were involved in the hobby and they were all more into gaming than painting. I had no source of information regarding techniques and no means to exchange ideas with other painters. The first step forward for me was when WD became more easily accessible here. This was in the mid 90ies I think. I will show a few minis from this time later... After a lengthy pause from painting I discovered a very active online community and this has been the most important leap forward for me yet.
