I will make this thread to showcase the works of some incredible artists. I will regulary update with some great pieces of art. First I will show you some of the minis of Sebastian Archer. He has not been in the world wide mini-painting scene for too long. At first try at a GD (OZ 2005), he won the slayer sword, and that pretty much speak for itself. His word bearers dark apostle is one of my favourite minis of all time. His word bearers dark apostle. He has captured the grim style of the 40k universe just perfect, and I think this mini is one of the greatest minis ever. His ork nob. Gold at GD OZ 2006. Aragorn, gold at GD OZ 2006. One of the greatest LOTR minis ever painted.

Andrea is indeed a great painter. His large scale inquisitor is indeed one of the greatest miis ever. His freehands is totally awesome, and it makes the mini look so real.

Great stuff, and a standard that I can only ever dream of getting close too. If you spent a little longer than a few days to make your mini masterpiece (and didn't have a half ton of other projects ) I believe you could achieve this standard.. but then that would ruin the dream!

That is probably very true mate, another problem is I get bored with a mini quite quickly and want to see it finished so I can move on, stuff like this requires so much time that I would never finish it anyway lol.

Then there's Darren Latham and his awesome Eldar: I reckon you could get to some of these guys' standards if you worked on something for a while, but as you said, you get bored and that keeps you from unlocking your true potential... /me After saying something smart like that I must hide...

I didn't know they were all by the same guy but I think I've seen all of those between white dwarf and GW online. Brilliant, I like the subtle designs on the custodians cloth--reminds me of Ottomon uniforms.

I like to see Darrens work he is for me the best of the studio painters, sometimes though I think that to be a great painter you do not need to necessarily produce minis of this standard, there are alot of painters out there that paint minis and get better and better in a short time, our very own dansemacabre is one of those IMO.

All of the above shown minis are technically brilliant. And i will recognize none of them amongst all those pics on CMON. Maybe it's just that this is WH40K, but to me these minis lack personality, if you know what i mean. I think for me the sculpt is as important as the paint-job, that's why i only can appreciate the blending/metallics/freehand but not the mini as a whole.

I know what you mean. Darren paints "by the book" and his minis may be a bit boring and lacks of personality. But I still like them nonetheless (sp?) ;D

Long since I posted a update, but here it is. I present to you, Ignacio Pineda from Spain. He is a quite unknown painter in the online community. This guy is only 17 (or 18) years old now, and he has 3 places in the finals, 4 golden demons, and one slayer sword. This bloke won the slayer sword at GD Spain in 2004, when he was only 15 years old! Finalist GD Spain 2001, 12 years old. Gold Youngbloods GD Spain 2003, 14 years old. Gold youngbloods GD UK 2003, 14 years old. Gold and Slayer sword at GD Spain 2004, 15 years old. Gold at GD UK 2005, 16 years old.
