One of the best fantasy authors to this day apart from Mr Tolkien I think is David Gemmell, I think I have read just about all his books and not one of them were a let down. Standouts for me were the Drenai Tales, Lion of Macedon, and the Legend of Deathwalker, he I think is a true fantasy genius.
