Another master is Isaac Asimov, I love all of his work. Currently reading through again the Foundation books.
Also don't forget about Stanislaw Lem, whose works belong to my favourites too.

Yes Asimov is very good, he does take a little reading though I find, I thought that Tad Williams, Otherland series was bloody ace but again took alot of reading to getinto it. I like some Arthur C Clarke, the Odysee series were good and I also liked his tie in to his TV series the Mysterious World.

Yes, i agree that Asimov and Lem write well too, but i think they're not as easy to read as Clarke. For that matter : i loved C. Sagans Contact. Whats Otherworld about? I've seen the books on the shelf but never bothered to read the cover. Has anyone read the Illuminatus trilogy? I thought about ordering it. By the way, Tim , great idea to start a 'literature' topic.

Thanks mate, Otherland is about virtual reality basically you plug into a computer system and it transports you lock stock and barrel into a cyber world where anyting is possible but there is a twist and a very dark side to the story. I heartily recommend it.

Yeah, Asimov and Lem are not as easy read as Harry Potter Just to avoid confusion, I have Arthur C. Clarke books on my shelf too . I'm not sure if I have them all, I should create some inventory list (my books are spread over two houses). Contact is very good, I liked the movie as well. I'll keep an eye open for Otherland, sounds interesting.

It is Tad Williams is a brilliant writer but he is hard too read if you understand me, I found that I had to read his works in short bursts rather than hour after hour like I can with some writers, he also wrote a brilliant fantasy saga called Memory,Sorrowand Thorn. The book titles were The Dragonbone Chair, The Stone of Farewell and To Green Angel Tower the latter actually got split into two books as it was such a large story, they were called Storm and Siege.

Hell Tim you keep reminging me of some of my favourite reads. Dragon bone chair is amzing writing. Some of his descriptions are jaw dropping in their ability to transport you.
