I put this two in one thread, because from both of them my favourite books are their collection of short stories. Roald Dahl is one of my favourite authors (I have many of them . As a start I warmly recommend his Collected Short Stories or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then go for others. His Collected short stories are all about somewhat strange, ironic, somtimes even horroristic situations. I love that there is always a cunning twist at the end of the stories. Similar style has Ambrose Bierce in his short stories, which is another recommended read. His stories do more in the horror direction. Devil's Dictionary is another good book from him.
