As of last Saturday, GW is no longer selling the collectors guides, they were giving them away, all due to this new conversion packs, and mail order shakeup. Get your bits while you can folks.
Loads of old stuff is being dropped from the mailorder, hence why the collectors guides are now obsolete.

Placed my order today for three classic Ogres, that is about all I want really from them at the moment. The shop in WHW is pretty cack now. I wanted to get a couple of the new minis from the Chaos Range and the Apocalypse range but they had none of them.

Is it also true that they plan to drop the specialist games in the near future too?

Is it also true that they plan to drop the specialist games in the near future too? Yes. This was posted by an anonymous poster on a different board, who called himself "Insider Info" Take of it what you will, but it sounds like it could happen.

I had suspected something like this might be afoot, I had believed though that Lotr would be the first casualty of the loss in profits. I certainly intend to stock up on the specialist games that I have to make sure I get the bits I have wanted before these things happen. I have to say I am not surprised that stores might close with the internet and the ability to get everything via mail order I suppose that keeping stores open is just plain uneconomical.

What get's me is that GW are notorious for dropping games willynilly, and then picking them up again years later, why not just keep 4-5 core games lines and be done with it?

I wouldn't be surprised to see all the specialist stuff move to Black Industries, especially now they have re-released Talisman under that banner, and then GW will/can dump the specialist stuff from the mail order.

I just got of the phone with a friend of mine who is a red shirt, and they are not dropping any of the specialist games! They are just gonna drop the lose bitz orders. And there will be made conversion packs for the popular systems. But most of the old school collectors stuff will be discarded.
And it is true that they are closing some stores, but they will not close all GW stores. In total I think it was 15 stores in north Europa that will be closed within a year, and 8 new ones. So basically they drop the ones with low profit and relocate them. But of course some stores will be closed for good.
And as a side note, Today there is 15 GW stores in Tokyo, and the future plans is to have over 40 stores in Tokyo before they move on to other cities! So at least GW is still making good money some places.

Sure they are going to tell you that they plan to drop the Specialist stuff, or an of their plans over the telephone. Not the way it works, they'll hold out for as long as possible and then drop the bombshell, just like with the mail order. If it doesn't happen, all well and good, but don't be surprised if it does.

I not going to make a argue about this. But he is a close friend of mine and I trust him when he says they are not dropping the specialist games. And just so you know, most of the full timers at the GW stores attend 1-3 gathering each year to get info about future releases and changes within the company. So most of them knows what they are talking about.

Still, would you tell folks, if it were your company and plans?
Like I said, if not then that's great news, but I'm not holding my breath, especially with their track record for dropping games.
